Hi All; We just bought a 2001 GP GT for our boy, he turned 16 on Saturday. Daughter has driven an '02 Monte SS for 3 years now, we've owned it forever and gave it over to her when she hit 16. Have wandered through all of the 3800 Gen II common problems with the Monte and brought the GP home anyway. 135K on the clock, a few dings but rust free. There was evidence of oil in the coolant reservoir. The car came from an impound lot in southern Ohio, sat for over a year, so I don't have a clue if it was fixed and never cleaned up properly or if I'll be doing the upper/lower intakes soon. Probly be doing the intakes ! Already see some of the other typical issues-data computer intermittent, only driver side of the climate control blows hot. The HUD display suddenly starting showing mph after nothing for the first few days of driving it. ABS light on, traction control off. Count me in to contribute here after being on the Monte forum for years. Some of our other cars include an '04 AstroAWD (my daily driver), wifey-poo's '07 Impala and a 1 Ton Express 6.0 for work. Welcome to the forums. We have a lot of knowledge here, any problem you run into someone here knows how to fix it. Your son will love the car in my opinion. I got my first gp when I was 18 and I'm 22 now and have had 6 since then, the one I have now is a 01 gt with 63k miles. I've had two 00s, a 01, a 05 gtp comp g, and a 04 gt. Miles ranged from 115k on my comp g, 150 or more on the rest besides my 01 with 63k
