• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Hi everyone, my name is john. I have a 2004 GTO and my girlfriend is looking to get a somewhat matching GTP. Figured the ls1gto site has helped me with my car, and this site will most likely help us with her new ride. We have found a 1998 2dr gtp, silver with black leather interior on craigslist for 500 bucks. we are going to look at it today. Blown trans and ALOT of miles. But its just going to be a project car or a parts car if we can find another car for cheap as well. She will be using my username as well as me. see you out there!

quick note look at the rear strut towers for rust. our cars like to rust there and shoot the shocks thru.

Thank you for the quick and helpful reply! im going to look at it in the next hour and i wouldnt have looked in alot of these spots you have listed. Great help! anything else right off hand? here is the craigslist post, short and non informative with crappy pictures but its 500 bucks! idk if i can go wrong?? 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

ya thats what i was thinking...

Basically what im looking for is a clean car with no rust and a nice interior. i could care less about the engine or trans because my dad owns a high performance engine machine shop and we have the ability to rebuild the engine for cheap and we know people who do cheap trans work that we do business with all the time. Rust is my main concern. that and dents and scratches. but for 500 bucks i think i could scrap it for that if it doesnt work out...

as we all stated just look for cancer everywhere. and i mean everywhere. they like to eat through under gas filler. creates an ugly little hole that you will hate

expect to see some rust on any car 10 years or older but dont let that make you walk away unless its really bad like more rotting the metal away then just a little bit of rust but for $500 you can really go wrong unless everything is broke

keep it coming! if anyone has anything else! leaving in about half hour to look at the car! lol. but seriously thank you for the help so far!

make sure the fuel gauge works too, its more of a problem on the 97 but if the fuel gauge doesn't work you have to replace the sending unit witch is tied in with the fuel pump. luckily GM gave us the option to access the fuel pump from the trunk so we dont have to drop the tank, but you still would need to go to the junkyard and find the part and hope it works because the part from autozone isn't cheap.

Ebay has that part.

Most of the normal problems have been addressed, I am sure if you were to buy it, some small issues here and there are to come up, but thats just part of owning a car.

crankshaft position sensor i think that would be whats bad if its not working, im not sure how hard the job is or how much it cost for the part because i never had to replace one

the only thing i would say to look out for is rust.my 97 has rust underneath the gas tank door and it isnt pretty lol hopefully ill get to fit it this summer but besideds that the grand prix is a nice car and they are quick

We ended up buying it for 500. This car is literally rust free! I looked the whole thing over and especially in the spots where all of you have said to look. Everything looks new. Thanks for all of the help!
