New with 03 GP SE, Give me Ideas

I am receiving a new to me 03 Grand Prix SE from my father in the next month or so. This car is going to be my GFs DD so I am not planing anything crazy with it. The car has around 102k miles on it, and has been well taken care of. What should I be looking at as to common wear items? What are common power adders for these engines? The headlights and tails have some moister building up in them, so I will be replacing those in quick order. What are common projectors I should be looking at if I end up going with a HID set up on this? I hate being the asshole with HIDs ins stock headlights blinding everyone. Thanks for any input and throw me some ideas here. It will be a mild build at most, but I do want it to be done right.
 


If its the 3.1, look or ask if the Intake gaskets were ever done. You never want to overheat a 3.1, they tend to blow headgaskets pretty easy.

Powers adders for a 3.1 = sell it and buy a car with a different motor lol. You could turbo it maybe, but really just leave it stock as a daily. Its what they were meant to do.
 
top swap with a 3400 and some headers is really is the only choice(cheapy) for these engines and dont listen to all the ppl who are gonna say dont touch it and it sucks leave it be.
I have one and i love it(the motor) it sounds the best also
 
It is a 3.1. It has never been overheated that I know of since it was mostly driven by my mom who thought going over 2k rpm was terrible for the car. The hardest it was driven was by me in college as my winter car for a year. What preventative maintenance is suggested for the overheating problem. How much money and performance can be expected with the top swap to a 3400 (also not sure what you mean here exactly). Do you have a link to the headers? I searched and could only find them for the 3800.
 
Not saying that the 3400 top swap won't increase power but if it is just gonna serve DD duty, why bother? Fix up the gaskets and throw a cooler tstat in to keep the motor cooler and happier and leave it.

Even with the top swap I doubt you'll be at a GT's power level.
