new struts?

I am looking to lower my car. Is it absolutely necessary to install new struts when going with 1.5 inch lowering springs? My 04 gtp only has 60k miles on it. Struts should last much longer than that no?

Which struts would be the best replacement for comp g struts?

They're not REQUIRED, but reccomended since lowering springs will shorten the life of your stock struts.

I would advise KYB GR2 or Excel-G struts for lowering springs. The 2 models are the same, but the Excel-G "replaced" the GR2's.

I had to do all the struts on my 05 at 70K. So I advise to do them with the spring swap.

Also by 95K I started getting tire wear and had to put in front bearings which stopped it. So they were cheaping out parts by 05.

how good are the KYB GR2/Excel G?

I have 30K+ miles on them and they are doing great. No noticeable loss of damping but probably softer than when new. Well matched to the stock GT suspension. However, they are not sport struts. When I first installed them I thought they should have been valved tighter. So, if you are looking for high performance dampers, look elsewhere.
