• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Hello All!

My name is Daryn and I'm new to the forum. I am the frustrated owner of a 2006 Grand Prix Base model  Since purchasing my car last July, I have already had to replace the Input Speed Sensor inside the transmission and the water pump. I love my car but I foresee nothing but issues with it. Most recently, it is really sluggish accelerating in 1st and 2nd gear. I believe it may be a blockage somewhere in the exhaust system but I really have no idea where to start. I'm trying to avoid taking it to a shop as I'm a broke University student but I also want to learn to fix this kind of stuff myself. If anyone is familiar with this issue or can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it!

I apologize if this was the wrong forum to post this kind of thing in but I just really need help. In the meantime, I will continue to browse the forums for a solution.

Thanks in advance and welcoming me to the community! :th_biggrin1:

could be a clogged cat. does the check engine light flash when you floor it? or is it on at all? if so get it scanned at a parts store, its free.

or it could just really need a tune up depending on its miles. how high are they?

Hey Scottydoggs,

Thanks for replying! No check engine light at all. I initially thought it was an issue with the Speed Sensor install so I had the shop test drive it with the scanner on and no codes came up during operation or while idling. Currently it's at 135,000 kms. I keep up on regular maintenance such as oil changes every ~3k. It may just need a tune up but I'm unsure.

What do you think?

if its never had a tune up it over due by 35,000 miles. so id start there.

the cat. you can remove the o2 sensor from the exhaust manifold off the back of the engine, (pre cat o2) doing so will cause a large exhaust leak but if it runs better the cat is clogging up.

you can also after a good spirited ride at night pull over and see if the cat is glowing red. if so its clogged.
