hi im new to engine swaps, and im having trouble with my car. its a 2002 Pontiac grand prix se, I have a bad rod bearing, and my crank is already scorn. so im thinking about doin an engine swap, only problem is I don't know what all 60* transaxle engines will swap into my engine bay with little or no modding. the car is stock with a 3.1L V6, and it don't have enough HP for me. Im looking for an engine to swap that will double the stock horsepower, and torque. im not looking to fix my stock engine because its to far gone :( any help will be very much appreciated, and taken into consideration.

I think the 3.4 would work with that transmission but don't quote me on it.

If you want to go fast just put a L36 or L67 in and call it a day. You'll need the corresponding transmission though...along with the PCM. It's a fairly easy swap. You're cradle and frame were actually made for the Series II 3800.

Personally, I would go with the L67...65 HP and 85 lb-ft more than what you have now and that's in stock form. The difference in torque is amazing.

Edited: After doing some research it looks like GM used the same M15 transmission for both 3.1L, 3.4L and 3.8L engines. I'll be damned!...you learn something every day. This means that you might just have to swap the engine and PCM.

thanks for the list of engines, it really helps. and I was already figuring I had to swap the pmc and wiring harness, and I really don't mind doing that because I had to do that on my moms truck. now I was reading on this one website and the person said something about the ls4 v8 that comes in the '06 and '07 Monte Carlo SS would fit, but they didn't say what year grand prix he had so I don't know if it would fit into my engine bay. and im not too worried about saving my tranny because im going to parts out my stock engine and tranny. to help pay for the swap, and I can get the tranny for the new engine cheep. but with swapping out the engine and tranny would I have to change my axles, or could I save them to use with the new engine and tranny?
