New Half Shafts on lowered 98 GTP

I have 98 GTP that is lowered about an inch. It has been this way for about 18 months and I'm thinking about putting it back to stock because the half-shafts just don't last. I'm about to put my second set on since lowering and it is just one of those PITA jobs that I hate doing.

From reading up on this it seems like when you lower the car you end up with half shafts that are now just a bit too short or too long and somhow the angle just isn't right and this causes them to wear out much sooner than normal.

I got a good deal on some used ones from Morad the last time but I'd like to find a more permanent solution than an annual half shaft replacement weekend.

Does anyone have any ideas that they have tried for this?

which half shafts are you using?

it seems GM's are the only good ones.

also, how are you correcting the axle geomtery?

if you're not running an intercooler i'd suggest ditching the shortened dog bones for some engine/tranny mount spacers aka the proper way to correct the angle.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply.

I am using stock, OEM half-shafts.

I am not running an intercooler but I do have TOG headers which make for a tight fit under the hood.

Dog bones are stock.

I'm not correcting the engine geometry at all and am obviously ignorant of the need to do this but would love to learn more and would apprecaite any guidance.

you need to raise the transmission to correct the half shaft angle.

look into vinnie's spacers.

they should get you where you need to be.

try half the set first since you're only lowered an inch.

I've been on stock axles for 9 years on my lowerd GTP. Been fine ever since. Guess im lucky..

but do get Vinnie's spacers. I would but no room with the I/C
