New guy in an 01 GT

Hello all. Just picked up a Silver 01 GT last weekend (3/30/14). 4 door, black leather and tinted windows. Love it! It does need some work though. Headlights, tail lights (of course), o2 sensors, one door speaker, a/c compressor clutch and a coolant leak somewhere. Already replaced both mufflers. Love the 3800 motor. I'm not new to that. Had a 95 Buick Park Ave Ultra, Supercharged. Anyways, looking forward to getting some good advice from experienced owners and maybe network with some owners in the Milwaukee, WI area. JR

Coolant leak was the main coolant supply line from radiator to engine. Previous owner did some work and the factory spring loaded clamp wasnt holding tight. Replaced it with a new screw down clamp. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Look out for the front sway bar, they like to snap on the ends. I found that out when I bought my GP, and a quick trip to the junkyard showed that EVERY OTHER SWAY BAR WAS BROKEN TOO!

Also, get a steel LIM gasket as one of your first fixes, and metal coolant elbows. That should prevent future coolant leaks.

I'm not in the milwaukee area, but I'm near appleton. If there's ever a car show or something and you're in the area, hit me up. Welcome to the site!

Also, other common problems (from what I hear) is window motor regulators, HUD dimming issues, and definitely valve cover gaskets - check out this thread for some other ideas of what to check for (I wish I had read this BEFORE buying my GP lol): http://www.grandprixforums.net/threads/60802-The-97-03-W-body-buyers-guide-Common-problems

The guy I bought it from did a bunch of the major work like the intake gaskets, control arm bushings, brakes. Pretty mechanically sound car for the money. Appreciate the positve feedback so far!
