Hey guys! Nice board. I have been doing lots of reading and learning on here. Probably gonna go pick up an 01 GTP today, if not, there is a nice 97 that I have my eye on, but I know the 97's were a little different.

Anyways, I was thinking of some mods. (after I put in new plugs, etc)
1. CAI
2. Intercooler
3. pulley drop - 3.4" maybe?

My question is, would it be a waste to put an intercooler on a car with limited mods like this? Basically, I am lazy, and I dont want to put headers on the car, or crack open the engine for a while, and I want to keep the car reliable.
Is it a nightmare to change plugs in these cars?

Thanks

ps.. I come from the motocross world, so I understand and build engines, but I have never really messed with a car.

Many of the highly modded guys look at an intercooler as a perfect newbie mod. Anytime you cool the charge into the cylinders it is worthwhile. You could tune a bunch more power into the car with just an intercooler. Most of us higher modded guys also wish we hadn't let the pricing deter us from doing intercoolers sooner.

an intercooler as a first mod is probably the best decision you can ever make. do it and do it now.

what is CAI?

I have a slp intake that is sealed to the fender..

the only problem to the stock airbox in a 01 is that the headlight bulb block airflow.. to fix that you have to one remove the headlight or 2 modify it..

Just click the thanks button on the post you found usefull. I would just run a filter on the throttle body if you are going to run an intercooler.

with a mildly modded setup like that you dont have to worry about an intake that much. i would leave that SLP box if you dont want to buy anything else. otherwise with an intercooler you can just slap a cone on the throttle body and be done with it.

hmm I cant seem to find the thanks button?

I ended up buying a nice 01' with 80,000 miles on it. It already has a short stack intercooler, 3.25" pulley, full SLP exhaust, tranny shift kit, PCM, gauge pod with boost gauge, A/F meter, and CompG gauge, tinted windows, aftermarket rims, different sparkplugs, FWI, and a few more things I cant remember.
My next question is, when he turned on the ignition key, without starting the car, I couldnt hear the electric pump for the intercooler. Is this normal? I belive its from ZZperformance but im not sure.

Yes...you can hear the IC pump...its normal.

The thanks button. It is at the bottom right hand of everyones posts...there are 4 blue boxes...one says "THANKS"...pretty sure that is all I can really tell you except logging in as you thanking everyone...

Hmm I only see three boxes... quote..multi..and quick..

What I was saying, is that I cannot hear the pump, so I think its not working. I should probably figure this out very first?

So after some more reading, im guessing the pump is dead, this is common? I will have to replace.
Any other questions I should ask the guy when I go to pick it up today?

its not super common, but it happens. the pumps are only meant to run for so long. an intercooler pump cant be more than $80 if you know where to look.

Turn the key on and hold your hand on the pump and see if you can feel it working. IIRC you need so many posts to use the thanks option. Joe can give you some post whoring tips so you can use the thanks button.

Nice sounding car, I'd suggest you get a full size intercooler and a tuner then start getting smaller pullies. Should feel the difference with that. Of course get the pump fixed first.
