New Grand Prix Owner, questions.

Im a new owner of a 98 Grand Prix Gt, Im having an issue with the car stalling while coming to stop. Will start right back up but not idle until about the third attempt. Unfortunately the engine light does not work. My buddy scanned it and he said it was coming up with MAF sensor. It has not cut out on me while accelerating, just when coming to stop. Seems to idle a tad high as well. Ive been researching and have seen some say MAF sensor, others say the Crank position sensor, and also the Idle air control valve. I have about 450 bucks left to throw at this thing, some needs to be used for window regulator on driver side but other then that I want to get this car running as good as I can for now. Have always wanted a Grand Prix, now that I have one I want to do what I can to get it back where it needs to be.

square sensor on top of the throttle body
unplug wire clip running into it
pull it out with the car running and tell us what happens

forgot to add that when the car stalls the trac off light also trips. Has only done this to me 3 times, but have only had the car a week. Have not been able to pull the maf yet because Im at work.

A few dummy lights will always trigger automatically when the car stalls while in drive. Pretty much, the cars tell you that it's stalled and you don't have traction control.

Your symptoms sound like a bad maf sensor. Change that out and see if it helps

I did not get the MAF disconnected, however when I the car was idling fine, I went to disconnect it and as soon as I wiggled it alittle bit the car almost stalled and began to idle rough, I turned the car off, went to start and it took about 3 times before it would idle again. I think Im just going to buy the MAF today, found brand new one for 127 but also found a 40 bucks off coupon so Im getting it for 87.

Before you do, you can also try using a MAF cleaner...can of it is like a few bucks at your local auto parts store...I mean, if that works then you don't have to spend all that money on a new sensor. But it's just a band-aid really.
