Hi, I'm looking for a bit of help here, my girlfriend bought a 97 GT for $900, and it's in pretty good shape other than a few maintenance issues. So far this weekend I replaced both front wheel bearings (one howled bad), both rear struts (broken spring on driver's side, thought the clunking was from a bad mount but problem solved), taillights (cracked and full of water, plus half the bulbs were burnt out), headlights (one was duct taped on and both were about as dull as my beater Neon's), driver's mirror (missing lol), and now I'm stuck on this blower motor issue. Seems to be a common problem from Google but haven't seen any concrete answers. Symptoms:

Blower works great on high, doesn't work at all on 1-4. Figured it was the resistor block, so I replaced it (that thing sucks to get to, luckily I just plugged new one in first to see if it fixed it, it didn't). Also noticed this since I need new lights in the garage, the DRL's turn off on 1-4, but stay on otherwise. Also noticed the rear defrost doesn't always come on, the relay in glovebox will click, and light will flash but then back off. Occasionally it'll work. When I set to 1-4, something under the dash by your left foot clicks, is that a BCM? When I unplug resistor block but leave blower relay plugged in, most stuff seems to work although the blower motor obviously doesn't.

I've seen several questions about this and people keep mentioning ignition switch (how much is that thing?) and also some "ignition wire". I tried looking at this crappy manual I got at O'reilly's that doesn't have any damn wiring diagrams in it other than for under the hood, so I can't seem to figure out where everything goes. Gonna search on here to see if I can figure this out.

Oh yeah, checked all the fuses too.

The spring from the pen probably doesn't have the same rate as the original spring, thats why it's not coming back.

The spring from the pen replaced one of the 6 that holds the contacts in place. There is a large spring around the cam thing that's supposed to spring it back. I could not get it to work properly no matter how I put it in so I gave up on that. It works fine other than that. Just in time for a nice Wisconsin winter. Not having rear defrost would have been bad.

And I made the spring longer to make up for the difference in spring rates, the pen one is noticably thinner but when compressed down it's pretty close by finger-feel. It's not perfect but I needed to get the car back together so my gf could drive it tomorrow and it works for what it's for.
