• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Need some guidance!

Hi all I'm pretty new to the fourms but have something I can't decide what to do with. I have a 2002 Grand Prix gtp with a few mods. It currently has a 2.5 inch zzp down pipe and a 2.5 zzp catback. Also currently running a k&n intake with autolight iridium 104s and a zzp mps system. I'm still on a stock tune but I ran a 3.4 pulley at the track with my best time of 15.3 with 3-4 degrees of kr. I live in Denver by the way In case it may confuse someone why I'm running slower. My question is should I upgrade to a short stack ic and get a power log? Is it manditory to port my manifold while I have my supercharger off? I'm looking for times to be 14.8 mabye 14.6 and I also plan on getting a custom tune when I'm done. Or is there another upgrade path I should try? Car has 120k on it too and currently have a 3.6 pulley on there and getting consistent times of 15.5 with no kr right now. Any help is much appreciated!

being so high up... look up Gojo83, he's also up there in altitude and has gotten a good handle on the various mods to make power w/o oxygen. I think your front manifold is holding you back, but I'd probably go SD headers before a plog.

Iv been thinking about going headers but want to be able to pass emissions and not have to deal with blocking off the egr and stuff like that.

You don't have to block EGR with headers

I passed emissions with a full sized IC, headers ...name it. there's ways around most stuff.

Is there a catted down pipe I can buy with speed daddy headers that will just bolt in?

you can buy a 3 inch high flow car off ebay and weld it in the down pipe of the speed daddy headers, or clamp it in.

like so. sd headers the middle part of th epipe comes out, the cat takes its place. i later welded the cat in. i did this to get through inspection asap.

Are zzp headers any good if I decide to go that route? Just wondering if there good. Really don't want to go cheap headers like sd headers.

Probably hundreds of people on this site have SD headers. They're cheap, but they work will just some better clamps. They're also only cheap in price, not build. I've had mine on for over a year, no issues. And i saved the 500 dollars vs ZZP headers.

So I have decided to just go with sd headers for now. Is there anything else I should pick up for the install? I don't think my install is going to be too bad hopefully because I have a car lift at home that will come handy. Also is there a bung welded in for a rear and front o2 sensor? Thanks guys!

bungs are there, you need to beat the fire wall in some where the up stream o2 is gonna hit. i quick dry run to mark the fire wall, then take the header back out and beat the firewall in some.

then you need two 2.25 band clamps, and two 3 inch band clamps. re use the stock metal gaskets on the heads. toss the kits head manifold gaskets and the U clamps they send with it in the trash.

you may need two new bolts and nut for the cat back, most of the time they break.

use the new cat back gasket, nothing wrong with that one.

I have new bolts for the catback if I need it. Should I buy new exhaust bolts for the heads while I'm at it? Just want to be prepared if they break or if they have a tendency to break I should say.

You probably won't need them, but if it makes you more comfortable, get them. I put SD headers in not too long ago and had no issue re using them after cleaning them up a bit on the wire wheel. The cat back flange bolts however were a pita. I ended up drilling them out and replacing them.

re use the bolts, its fine. remember where the stud with a nut on it holds the oil dip stick. other then that the rest can go where ever.

Sorry but one last stupid question. will i need an o2 extender? it looks like i have a little room to play with but not sure if its needed or not. Thanks! :th_thumb-up:
