Need New Brake Rotors/Pads

New to site. I did do a search, but it looks like everyone is looking for slotted and drilled rotors.

I did look around a lot on the internet, and it seems like slotted and drilled are for looks and only good for cutting weight. Here's the top negative information I found:

-Lose braking surface area
-Stress cracks on drills and slotts
-There is no proof that they are effective

With that said; I am looking for BLANK brake rotors for a '99 GTP. I found Brimbo front brakes, but no rears. I do not know anything about brake rotors, so any help will be useful. I am probably going to get HAWK brake pads. Could someone give me their two cents on what model to get for daily driver, but aggressive. I was reading ceramic isn't worth it because they need a lot of heat to be effective?

Lastly, I read the thread on upgrading to a 12' rotor in the front. Has anyone done this? Is it worth it?

I understand that you can't believe everything you read online, so my information can be wrong. If you are going to contradict what I said above, please provide support. Thanks for your help in advance

napa premium rotors are pretty damn good, cost more then the other parts stores, but you get what you pay for.

you would have to be beating the brakes pretty damn good to warp them.

The premiums arent I don't think. The ultra premium have painted hats and I believe are coated.

I havent heard of any problems with warping, my work use 90% napa stuff and we don't get comebacks.

Most of the time when they warp its the drivers fault or a faulty brake system for causing it.

Be it a bad set of pads, a faulty caliper, excessive heat or physical damage to the rotor.

Alright, then Napa rotors it is! I am on their site and there is Ultra Premium and Premium. I'm guessing the only difference is that Ultra Premium are just rust resistant to some extent?

You could also check out R1 Concepts E-Line rotors. They have an Ebay store and sell the solid rotors. Heard good things about them as well and the prices are nice.

welcome and yes i did it this past weekend...its really night and day difference... just follow the thread. its like a 1.5 hr job..just have a buddy to bleed the brakes. oh check out brakemotive on ebay ..thats where i got my rotors from..they do just fine...buddys had his for over a year...

IMHO, the 11" front brakes are inadequate, just plain dangerous. I did the 12" front upgrade, which are MC/Imp calipers. Significant improvement, definitely worth the $. But, I really wish I had done the F-body dual piston/alum caliper (I was being cheap & regret it). Check out rockauto.com, I did full brake job for friend's mom's Imp few weeks ago & got her PowerStop kit = (2) 12" rotors-front, (2) 11" rotors-rear & (8) ceramic pads for about $160. IIRC, they have a kit w/ drilled/slotted rotors, too. Personally, I don't think drilled/slotted it worth the $ for a daily driver, even if they look cool, but I am NOT an expert. Good luck.

I run F-body's up front and got a set of Centric premiums (not drilled or slotted) off amazon (replaced the rear rotors as well). I am a prime member and take advantage when i can. But I am very happy with the rotors so far. They came with the hats and edge painted black and the coating but it comes off, rust is inevitable. But Centric is a good option.

I am also running Hawks HPS pads all the way around alond with SS lines.

You wouldn't notice much a difference in stopping power over the Monte/Imp calipers. I had that setup on my Buick and it was pretty damn good for a cheap upgrade. I have F-bodys (now C5s) on my GTP and couldn't tell a difference. Both cars had rear GXP brakes also. The good thing about the Monte/Imp calipers is you wont lose any pedal travel..
