I cannot locate the snap ring on my fuel pump. I can only find directions for cars older than 2000, so i am guessing maybe my 2002 is different?

thats what i thought but all the how to's said theres a snap ring. thanks ill give that a shot

2001+ plastic tanks don't have a "snap ring"
That rusted out 2" think ring is what holds the canister in.
With a flathead and rubber hammer like said above, it will come out. Those metal tabs sticking up (yellow lines) have a groove shape on the end of them holding the whole ring in place. Just pound and don't break anything. That black connector on top, next to the white, will wiggle straight up out of there if you want to get it out of the way.
Another thing to note is the style of canister/bucket is different in 01+ than 97-00. 01+ has no venturi, so if you have a new fuel pump that has a port on the top of it next to the electrical connector, that is for venturi feed to the pump and is the wrong pump.
