• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

need help finding a CAI

Make your own.

All the ones out there are over priced, expensive junk.

If you go to Lowes or Home Depot in the plumbing section, they have a 3x3" rubber coupler that comes with 2 clamps... all you really need is that piece and a filter.

Rubber coupler on tb > air filter on other side of coupler > DONE

04+ Rubber coupler on tb > MAF on coupler > Filter on MAF > DONE

Coupler costs like 8 bucks, filter can be had for 20-50 depending on brands, etc. Does the SAME THING as the 200 dollar plastic mess you bought off K&N or Spectre or Wizaird or whatever.
Only thing you might need to do is put a 1/4" or so hole into the rubber piece for the PCV hose.

Your cone is too small!

But hey, you'll be fine with that little guy. Just consider throwing a bigger one on, eh?

Or GET UP AND MAKE YOUR OWN!!! Jeebus... It is soo silly easy. And better. And cheaper. And..... Just do eeeetttttt.

I read it sillyy, I just dont want to go out to lowes or home depot and do all of that, im lazy :/

If you want to be modding your car, lazy is not how you will get results... lazy is how you will get a ruined car eventually.
I was lazy doing my hv3, didnt wanna spend 30 seconds to remove the fuel rail again and double check all the plenum bolts... ended up with a huge coolant leak.

A drive to lowes takes a few minutes, picking out the right coupler takes like 5 minutes and then actually putting it on the tb with the filter takes 5 seconds.

It'll take you longer to remove the stock air box than it will to piece together the new intake.

So just how much cash are you willing to lay down for a half hour's worth of work?
Cause... you know... I got a lawn mower and some free time if you're too lazy :p

Installing one of the piles of fail that is a vendor "cold air intake" is way harder than getting the $8 coupler and/or clamping on a filter.

If you have a 04+, you just need to bolt a filter onto the maf sensor, it takes like 50 seconds, and all you need to do is buy a filter from autozone, or you can order one to your house....

After lurking for quite awhile to figure out how to go about making/buying the right CAI, I have not seen one dyno graph that shows that a homemade CAI is more of an improvement than a vendor CAI.

I'm new to GP's, and never modded a 3800. However, I do know that simply going from an aftermarket/stock air box CAI in my TBSS (3.5") to a 4" FWI netted me about 20hp to the wheels. You can see proof on the PCMForLess.com website. So, do the 3800's not respond as well to colder air vs more air?

Making one looks very easy, but it looks like cold air comes in through the vents and is piped back to the air box. Why wouldn't you reuse that setup instead of just an open cone filter in the hot engine bay?

Throwing a CAI on leans you out because it skews your MAF readings.

GM likes their cars to run on the richer side for longevity and safety purposes.

Leaning it out nets you power, as does the increase in flow.
