Need Help - Automatic Air Conditioning

My '08 has the uplevel automatic, two zone air conditioning. It just started with a problem I couldn't find when searching previous posts.

The vent selector knob (dash vents, floor vents, defroster) seems to have no direct control when in manual mode. Regardless of setting, air comes out the dash vents. Halfway between full dash and split dash/floor seems to put a little air at the floor. At no time does it put air to the defroster (obviously this is a major problem heading into winter).

Before I go to the dealership, are there any known problems in this area. I'd like to go in educated so that they don't try to rip me off.

Hopefully I've fixed my problem. I sprayed compressed air (spray can used to clean computer keyboards and electric equipment) all around the gap around the selector knob. I went around a number of times and tried to change the angle of the straw. Everything is working fine again.
 
If it acts up again also try pulling the hvac fuse for 1 minute, then putting it in and start the car and leave run for 1 minute without touching the hvac controls, this will recalibrate the hvac control module. This has worked on other prixs with similiar problems so far.
