hey everyone, i just recieved a 1970 grand prix from my grandfather who passed away a couple months ago. I dont need the car and i dont want it to just sit around in my garage. i would rather sell it to someone that would take care of it. i dont really know what its worth and was wondering if someone could help me out with that.
the car is a 1970 grand prix sj, midnight blue with white vinyl top, has 57000 miles, one owner, automatic, interior is in great shape and exterior is flawless. car is 100% original. hasnt been driven since 1996. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot

If you are considering starting that engine, if it has really been dormant for 13+ years, I would pull all the plugs and dump liberal amounts of tranny fluid in the cylinders and then crank the engine over by hand after letting it sit a day or so. Do this slowly over several days.

Carb will have to be pulled and flushed/inspected and probably the fuel tank also.

Make sure you do not use the starter to crank the engine over at first. Next I would change the oil out with fresh and use an oil pump primer to get oil all through the motor.

This car was originally equiped with a points type ignition, I would give it a full tune up with points, rotor , cap and condenser.

I have started engines that have sat this long ( and longer -20+ years!) and this is what really needs to be done to try to limit any damage to the engine.

Over this much time, the bores and other machined surfaces can rust, the possibility that the rings are rusted to the bores is certainly there.

PM me if you like.

thanks for the quick feed back. the car has sat in my grandfathers garage since 96. he use to drive it every so often but since then it hasnt moved. i have some pics of the car i can post but there almost 15 years old. car is exactly the same as it when then though. thanks for the advice on how to fix it up to start it. im probably going to tow it to a shop to have it tuned up and everything. what does a car like this usually sell for?
