Need a new key...

When I bought my car, they only had one key and one fob for it. Well, I had to take my wifes van a couple of times last week, and accidentally stranded her at home when I took my keys (with the only key to the GP). How do I go about getting a new key for this thing? Anyone had to replace keys? '01 GP GT.

go to local gm dealership and get a copy, if you dont have a key to copy get your VIN, and i think if you can prove your the owner, you can get them to make you a key, need registration or title if you dont have key not sure how that works.

Does it just need to be a blank PK3 Key?

slow down kids,,,depending on the year you need to ohm the key you have, then order one with in the old keys range.

i got a new key got for my 98 regal. there were 10 keys to chose from, only one will work for you.

programming instructions are also in the owner's manual. just go to the dealership. they will even program it for you if you aren't sure.

Dealership programmed me a PK3 after making it. $100
I did a pk3 buying off ebay and had it cut $15

Dealership can definately do it. Probably quicker than you.

my key ran me a whole 12 shipped, and cost 1 dollar to cut it at my local hardware store.

there is always the auto lock smith deal, they run about 1/2 price of the dealer for a new key and programming. they do fobs too. but you can get that off e bay for 25 to 40 new or less for used, and program it yourself.

Ebay keys FTW. I purchased one not long ago from this exact seller. When you still have a working key, programming the new one is easy.

I looked for Bill's thread, but all I could see is instructions for programming a new fob, so here's for the key.

[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]1. Insert an existing programmed working key into the ignition cylinder.

2. Turn ignition to the ON position and back to OFF

3. Remove the existing key and within 10 seconds insert new key and
turn it to the ON positiion.

4. The security light will light up for 2 seconds to indicate successful
programming of the addtional key. Remove key from ignition.

5. Insert key and start vehicle to test key.

Cool - thanks. I had the same result looking for Bills write up...lol

i just ordered these puppies for my friend, who ironically lost his only key today. lucky for him he found his keys, but still only has one key, found this deal for him.

fords are messed up as always, and you cant add a new key unless you have 2 keys now. so he will have to have them programmed by a lock smith. the way i see it if the locksmith charges 50 to program the 2 new keys, and they only cost 30 shipped for 2 keys, and 2 fobs,,deal! thats only 80 ish for 2 new keys, and better then what the dealer would rape him for.

i didnt have a chipped key, when i lost mine (99 GP GT) i took them a copy of my registration which had vin, they cut it for 18 bucks in about 10 mins...easy day. i know chrysler keys there is an easy way to program yourself and save the money, its a 5 step process with inserting key/etc and doing a hat dance, but dont let them charge you 100 some dollars for something you coudl do yourself
