My venture into the LIM gasket replacement

Well after much mental debate within my huge melon, I decided to tackle my leaking LIM issue tonight. After much research on this forum and YouTube, I felt I was ready for this daunting task.

I'm happy to say that stage one of the project went through 100% with no issues. I have everything apart and cleaned up ready for re-assembly tommorow. I ordered the parts through Advanced I just need to pick them up Saturday morning. Once again, many thank to BillBoost for hooking me up with the promo code which saved me some cash.

The only issue I had was with the 2 recessed bolts in the lower intake. I was beginning to freak out when I couldn't get the lower intake off, until I remembered o suck out the coolant to see them. Everything else cam apart fairly easily, I just took my time and didn't rush anything.

Here's the pics so far. Hopefully the album will share out.

Quick question. The bolts that hold the LIM to the heads. Which ones need sealant applied to the threads. Do any of them go into the water jackets?

I believe most of them are open to the crank case.

You might get some oil seepage if anything. Be safe and use sealant on all.

Job done. Started the reassembly this morning and everything went pretty smooth. Started around 8:30 and finished up around 11:00. Not too bad for my first time. Biggest difficulty and really it wasn't that bad.

1. Lining up the coolant elbows and getting them to slide in without breaking. Stupid design by GM
2. Getting the injectors to seat correctly with the new O rings. I ended up using the hold down points for the rails to get them inserted.

Had another panic moment when I went to go start it. All I got was a bunch of weird clicks from the relay's. Really started to freak out until I realized that the positive battery cable was loose and I had a little bit of water on top of the battery from when I filled the coolant reservoir.

Again. I really want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone in this forum who has contributed with suggestions and advice. I would have never attmpted this without you.

Glad all went well!!!! Did Bill show you the thread that walks you through plugging your LIM coolant holes? I did this to mine and am glad I did, but I'm running a N/A 3800 to so.... But since you are done, again am glad all went well!!! Being a fellow DIY'er and have relied on this forum a lot, it is a GREAT place for info!!

I think I may have missed that thread. What is the advantage of plugging the holes?

Being supercharged, there isn't much advantage to it. With him being NA, it means his intake can never rupture and hydrolock him.
