My new struts sweak!!

Madness

New member
Recently, I had new struts installed on my 03 GT. The shop installed quick struts in the front, and "standard?" struts on the rear. After about 5,000 miles the rear end started sqeaking rather loudly. Took it back to the shop and they replaced the rear strut bearing plates for cost and 1/2 of labor. Tonight, after a 100 mile trip they sqeak even louder!!

Any ideas what is going on?

Oh man, what a PITA!
Suggestion: Take a wrench and check the 3 nuts at the top of each rear strut. That's the easiest thing to check. If they are on tight then pull the rear wheels and push/pull each strut to see if they move sideways at the top mount. Make the sure the car is solidly supported. A 2nd pair of eyes will be needed in the trunk to watch. If no motion is observed then I would suspect the spring insulator which requires removal of the strut. But this should have been checked during the initial install and subsequent mounting plate replacement.
While the rear wheels are off, I would spray some silicone at the top of the springs as a simple thing to do that might temporarily stop the squeeking.
