so i got a call this morning from he, and she said that her abs, trac off, and low tire pres. lights all came out, i told her it means that she has no abs, or tc, as far as the tire pres. light, idk. she doesnt have tpms so i dont have a clue why that would come on. she said she looked in her manual, and couldnt find anything...so she came to the internet, and she read that her front hub is about to fall ff O_o so now she doesnt wanna drive....so what the eff is going on. isthis some kind of gm f--- up, or what?! im honestly tired of her damn car....

Yeah these cars aren't exactly brand new anymore you know.

It should be fine to drive though, just get it checked out.

Exactly, Unless your chick's car has 30k miles or less (and even then, the age of the car would matter more), There's no argument against GM here. Just plain wear and tear. Go to rockauto, order a timken wheel bearing or two (replacing in pairs or all around is smartest), install it/them and be happy.

so those lights coming on means she needs a new wheel bearing? i didnt know if it was just a wierd quirk with gm, bcsome of their products, do wierd things, i never said it was new, im just looking for answers....ya know? im sorry that it came off that i was baming it on gm....

well, we have been hearing a noise(hard to describe over the net) but my "mechinic" friend said it was her tires?! so i thought it was just a bad belt or somthing....lol

how do you get from tires to thinking its a belt? and no, gm's dont do weird things, people do weird things with gm's. id suggest replacing both bearings.

ABS sensors are in the hub/bearing assembly. Either bearings need replaced, or the sensors gone bad. Either way, get a new set of Timken hubs. And yeah, she should have noticed the f-ed up braking and the ABS module growling at her by now too.lol

EDIT: And it's fine to drive, just tell her not to be making any performance stops, especially while turning, as it may trigger the ABS.

you think someone could hear this? but what year does she have? never heard of tire pressure except on 04+ and like me the 97. when mine went i got tire pressure light and abs light thats it. but i dont think i have traction control

It could be the sensors went out. My bearings are fine but the sensors went out a long time ago and the car drives perfectly fine. Jack the car up, put your hands on the top and bottom of the tire, try to wiggle the tire. If it wiggles then you'll need new bearings.

Ok.. Let's start off by saying she likely read worse case scenario about a wheel falling off. It takes a lot to get a wheel bearing to fall apart. A lot.

If the lights popped on, likely it's a bad sensor in the bearing and nothing more. If you've been hearing a wheel bearing and the lights came on, then it should be easy to find/fix.

LMFAO, gotta love "mechanic friends"..............

Quick funny story: My buddies g/f's car was making a horrible high pitched noise while driving, he checked everything and I told him "dude, it's more than likely a wheel bearing, it sounds like a wheel bearing to me". Of course he's a "BMW TECH" so he brought it to the shop and "tested" it for wheel bearing, says no way it could be one. He says he diagnosed the noise to the trans housing. So we take a weekend and swap out the trans, only to STILL have the sound.................. The next week he calls me and says "I changed the wheel bearings, the noise is gone now........."

So yea, "mechanic friends" don't always know what they're talking about.

I agree with the rest that it is most likely a wheel bearing.

Yes, 97-03 cars have low tire pressure lights. From what I know, they use the wheel speed sensor that is in the wheel hub to sense when one wheel is going slightly faster than the other wheels. This will throw off the low tire pressure light. But from my experience, the light will usually only go off when I hit a bump or pot hole or something weird, and not when my tires are low on pressure.

when i said "belt", i was meaning the belts in the tire....aka a"broken belt" sorry if that confused anyone...lol

but we are gonna order those hubs or whatever every, but god damn they are expensive, LOL.

thanks for all your help! you guys are alot nicer then the douche bags over on honda-tech...LOL

Jake..if you have Advance Auto locally.. drop a Moog one in the cart and type in discount code Ccabin ... there ya go bud.

Scan it. Why has nobody said to scan it yet? Don't just throw money at it. Sure, you can go ahead and replace all four bearings. But what if your EBCM is bad? Different problem with the same symptoms.

Reason I didn't suggest it is because likely it's a pre 2000 and won't give a standard scanner any codes or info. Takes around a 2000 to inform the scan tools most might have available to them. Pre 2K (at least in Regalland) you need a Tech 2, Snappy Brick or newer equivalent.

Most garages have the necessary tools to scan pre-2000 ABS codes. The good garages anyway. In my experience, the garages will scan it for free, or very little and tell you the codes. Just be nice and friendly with them up front and most will return the favor.
