my car wont start

so this morning i used my automatic starter to start my car, then i got into my car and accidentally hit the brake and the car turned off. i started it up again and the rpms wouldn't stay up, the car wasn't ticking it was actually starting but not all the way.. So i opened my hood and used my automatic starter and pulled the rev thing and the rpms stayed up.. does anyone know what this problem could be? Im thinking the battery but thats just my guess and its probably wrong. If anyone could help it will be appreciated, Thank you

take it to Autozone they will check your battery & alternator for free
