my car keeps shutting off

I have a 3800 not super charged, 2000 with 160,000 miles on it. heres the problem, yesterday i was driving and everything was fine and then at one point my car started dragging real bad, i was smelling coolant, and then it started shutting off. when i drive it seems as if the car doesnt want to shift gears, and if i take my foot off the gas (let the rpms drop) then it would shut off
does anybody know what kind of problem im dealing with

Have you ever changed the intake manifold gaskets? They are very commonly a problem with these cars. And if they get bad enough can cause the problems you mention. I would look there first.

as a matter of fact it had been leaking but i just put in the stop leak but now that leak is back and much worst because i can hear air getting out, and someone told me these problems was my spark plugs and i was thinkng it was my transmission,do you think the gaskets is my problem? cause i hope so

First off, stop leak sucks and can cause more problems down the road. Don't use it.

And yes, it is very possible that the gaskets are your problem. I would get them changed ASAP before you ruin your entire engine.

ok heres the update, i changed the gaskets and its changing gears now but not to good, its stalls and im begining to think that this is a problem with the coolant system, remember before i said when it stopped changing gears that i had smelled coolant prior, well there is a LOT of pressure in the system for some reason, the end of the hose that connects to the thermostat housing looks like a like a baseball after i drive a while so i know i will be needing to change that hose but what in the world could be causing all that pressure to build up,do you think the stop leak blocked something that it wasnt supposed to, or could it be something dealing with my pcv valve or vacumm tube
