My Airbag Suspension Thread

Let's start off with what I've received Fedex today, I won an eBay auction for these 4 Airbag Struts made for the Grand Prix, less than a year old with only 10k miles. I'm Still waiting on my Air Management Setup to arrive as well since it wasn't included in the auction just waiting until for delivery on the 24th . I'll have it done by the end of the week hopefully, there is a local gp meet and greet I'm trying to attend.

I was able to tailor the setup to my preferences. This setup costs $2,200 new with a few hundred in upgrades from what they offer in the standard air management setup.

-5 gallon stainless tank upgrade up from 3 gallon steel.
-Water trap and drain.
-4.0cfm 1/2hp up from 1.0cfm 1/3hp.

Just wanted to start a thread for pictures and such.

use the upper holes on the lower mounts. go lower.

looks like the fronts are slotted for camber adjustment when the rears aren't and the rears are where you're actually going to need that adjustment. i hate bolts.

As long as the upper holes don't cause an issue yeah ill probably take that advice.

I can't imagine I'll be doing to much driving really low. So hopefully camber isn't to bad at a stock height

Wonder if I can slot out the rear ones a little more like the fronts..

the only thing you have to worry about with the lower mount is running into the CV boot. remember that it baloons out when you're driving, too.

otherwise you're right. driving height you shouldn't be too worried about it. make sure it's aligned at wherever you're going to drive it.

I'm glad you just said that, I've got an extended oil filter and I remember someone saying months ago

"you'd only have issues with clearance if you car bottoms out, and if that were your case you'd have other issues"

Well I believe specs show these struts are capable of a 4" drop/4" raise from stock. So I think I'll be going back to a normal filter for precautions. lol

They look like the AIR-BAGIT struts which is what I have on mine if you use the lower holes no air will be about -1" stock height :th_winking: using the upper holes will be about a 3" drop with no air in the front and using stock 16" tires. The back is great for dropping but the front is better for raising the car :( If you are using bigger rims and tires check the bags for clearance. It has taken over two years to get mine working like I wanted. I got the controller from dakota digital because it will control height based on air pressure and sensors on the wheels. But if I did it again I would just get a system that just uses the air pressure a lot simpler and works just as well. Good Luck :th_winking: and welcome to the GP's on air. There were two of us at the Autofair in Charlotte, NC

They are the airbagit.com struts. Have you verified the upper holes will work? I've got the ws6/compg fe3 suspension. Came stock with 17s. Currently has 18s. So I guess it'll be trial and error. I really hope to use the upper mounts for moar low lol

I know there is a difference between 97-03 and 04-08 ride height isn't there? I know everyone seems to make different spring for the different gens

Sorry I did not see you were 04  They look just like mine on the 97-03 one's :th_winking: yes the upper holes are what I am using but your's might not be the same. Airbagit does not give you a modified top mounting they use the stock bump stop for mounting and do not get real low on the front. The set from some other company on the other car I saw at Autofair had a modified top mounting plate and was 2" lower than me. :( He bought them used and did not know who made them. So I am looking for some way to lower mine now. :) If you use the top holes be carful the extra drop may hit the CV boot I had to grind about 1/4" off the bottom to clear the CV boot.

I really want to see where this ends up.

Jmak, this is David from the charlotte show. These are what I have but unfortunately it doesn't show the top mount in the picture so I'm not sure if it was something custom made or not. They are made by airlift, but airlift themselves no longer carries them. This place may have some extras laying around. They should probably be able to answer some questions for you if you email them though.

haha yeah

I was expecting several people to bid and not a single person bid higher. I picked them up for the $350 shipped he started the auction at.

I'm entirely overwhelmed with jealousy. And, had I seen these a day earlier, you would've been in a bidding war with yours truly.

:)

Got my Air Management Setup this morning. Thursday night I'll start putting it on.. I'll ride my Ninja zx7r to work Friday and as long as its nice into next week so I can take my time with the installation.

Progress.

Getting the board plumbed and sealed before it goes into the trunk, easier to find the leaks now then later. Gauges mounted as well.
