Hi.
I,m trying to avoid this..... muffler repair.
http://autorepair.about.com/od/fixityourself/ss/heat_shield.htm

Its a 2001 Grandprix SE
I have recently begun to hear noise while driving, and its coming from the muffler. Its not hanging too low or anything.
The noise could be worse/could be better. There are lots of bumps on the roads i drive on,and i,m guessing thats how it started, over time.
My mech.. says there are no parts for this anymore, and the link describes what i may be able to try.
Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?,and do you agree with the link i submitted?
Thanks much.

get under your car and see if the muffler seam has rusted out, or the resonator. go to a muffler shop have them weld in a new muffler.

or buy a new cat back off ebay, they run like 250 shipped it you look hard enough.

single muffler set up is cheaper. if thats what you have.

Sorry, forgot to mention it is a double muffler setup, for what its worth.
How much difference would that make?
Thanks again :)

about this much http://www.ebay.com/itm/97-02-Grand...|Model:Grand+Prix&hash=item2c6c17438b&vxp=mtr

keep in mind this is not the best quality steel pipes, but should last you more then a few years.

or you could shop on line for the intermediate pipe, aka the Y pipe, 90 to a 100 bucks. the res is like 80 ish now or a glass pack is like 25. does the same thing. and 2 mufflers. about 80 each give or take. depending if you want stock. after market are cheaper but sound like crap to me. your car, your taste. so do as you like with the mufflers. its a personal choice with sound.

Update:The mufflers fell off.
The CAA guy who came to tow the car completed the almost falling off of the mufflers,by taking them off completely because he said the car is driveable for a while yet,but it has to be fixed before i am stopped by the cops.
The onlt quote i have so far is from a muffler shop that says $300 for dual muffler replace, and exhaust.

Thanks for the link :)

I had a feeling,and i was right.
Too bad they dont ship to Canada :(
I just heard today that the car can still drive because there is another muffler somewhere, but when fixing it i should only need to get one muffler instead of dual mufflers.
