So I'm basically running through the tune up on my car. I'm not experiencing any problems at all, but have considered upgrading to the MSD Coils. However I've seen mixed reviews, any one have any feedback? While we're on the topic of ignition what plugs should I use for an 02 N/A Grand Prix, also any recommendation on a good set of wires?

they arent an upgrade. they are just a pretty color.

do yourself a favor and paint your stock coil packs and call it good.
 
if you want an indestructible set of plug wires that will last longer than the car let me know and ill get you in contact with a guy. they will be $130 for the set, but youll never buy another set ever.

plugs you should keep in the stock heat range, but a copper plug might help you out. what are they...autolite 605s?
 
yeah autolite 605's or 606's...more popular are the 606's.

I'd say though for $60 or so you can get the MSD wires...they are 8.5mm and are plenty of enough wire for a L36 powered car. And I've had mine off about...hmmm...at least a dozen times and no ill effects as of yet...
 


I would advise against the MSD wires, they are well known to cause problems. Some people get lucky, but they're the exception.

Proof? Maybe I just haven't been around long enough but everyone I know with them loves them and you sure as hell can't beat the price. If I wanted to spend a piss load of money on spark plug wires I would have bought PRJ's.
 
like i said..i can get you indo-structo-wires for $130. anyone else that is in i can guide you to the right person. i would buy some if i was keeping my car.

I wish the search wasn't so useless on CGP. There have been so many threads over there of people who's car ran worse on MSD wires. I've also talked to a number of shop owners that tell me one of their first steps in troubleshooting is to remove the MSD wires if they're installed. MSD wires are cheap for a reason, they're far inferior to the stock wires. Very little winding and inconsistent spacing on the winding, all leading to poor conduction and poor suppression. As I said, they can work, but the results are very inconsistent. The simple truth is that Taylor wire (used in the PRJ wires) has between 10 and 16 times as much winding as MSD wires (and Magnecore has 4 times the amount of Taylor :))

i have an old set of taylor wires the i took off my car. they are nice, but i was trying to diagnose a misfire problem at the time. guess i never got around to tweaking the boots and putting them back on. i would sell those for cheap.
