Motor noise at half throttle

Hey guys I have an 04 comp g and at half throttle to 1/4 throttle it has a almost "loud tapping" to "knocking" noise. Any idea to what I'm hearing guys. I mean it's not a low milage cAr it had 170k so I'm not looking for it to be quiet but noises like this scare me..

I had a noise like you describe. Finally got under the car and it was a heat shield above the downpipe.. was just touching the downpipe. Ripped it off.

Wonder if it was creating false kr now that i think about it..never know now lol.

Will false knock or knock in general make the cel come on?? It's never had a cel for knock but I have a Cam pos code Could that cause it?

I'll check and give the codes that come up. But I have a multiple misfire which I changed wires plugs and icm. Still have the misfire code and now after I changed the icm a few months later the cam pos code came up. Emission small leak code. Sensor 2 o2 code from the catless 3"dp.

I have a leak on my header exhaust that sounds like a tick/knock. Do you hear any pfff pfff pff noises at all under throttle? Mechanical ticking and exhaust ticking sound similar but if you listen good you can tell the difference. I unplugged my radiator fans and felt around the exhaust and felt it puffing.

Started the car up this morning when the motor was cold and the noise I've been hearing is coming from the back valve cover sounds like a valve tap. Is this common with these motors?

it could be a broken spring, or a lifter gone bad. only one way to find out, take the v/c off and check em out. you cn run the engine cover off for a bit to watch the rockers.

Checked the oil yesterday for shots and gigs and my oil looked glittery. So issues... - loud tapping In rear of motor and glittery oil.

Any ideas now guys?

Glittery oil is bad news.

The best way to see if you have a problem without a complete teardown is to drain the oil and cut the oil filter open. If you find flecks of copper in the oil and filter you are on your way to joining the Spun Bearing Club.
