motor is ticking

I have a 1996 Camaro 3.8 V6 and it ticks when I accelerate and gets faster when I accelerate faster but at cruising speed or accelerating while moving it doesn't do it, the check engine light was on but went off after a day. help!!

Pull the code.

But I kinda think the problem is an exhaust leak.

that's kinda what I was thinking its got a cherry bomb exhaust on it and its as lout in the motor bay as it it at the tips, the light went off after a day or 2
