Modding? 1 Last time!

PhilsGTX

Well I am thinking about modding the GTX a bit, but Im not so sure if I should. the things is I dont want to put 2500 bucks into the car and have it blow up or break. Small parts to fix would be fine but motors and trannys would not be worth it. the car has 103k on it and seems to run pretty well and smooth. I was even thinking of throwing together a turbo kit but dont want to if it isnt worth it. Thanks again peeps

if you put 2500 into the car, youre reaching the limit of the tranny. the motor can take anything you throw at it as long as youre not knocking.

a turbo will definately blow your transmission.

Well, maybe I will just do a cam and ported sc, headers and small ass pulley.......

You will still be pushing your tranny. You might be okay if you take it really easy on the launch. I have so far blown up two trannys and I am N/A.

Once you start modding there's no going back! Make sure you want to start before you do anything. It gets very addictive lol.

Well, with $2,500 your not going to make realible power on any car you choose, so you might as well keep it stock and leave it alone.

When ever you start modding ANY car you have to learn a few things... You have to pay to play and cheap, fast, realible... you can only pic two.

If you gonna do any GOOD mods on these cars (heads/cam or a turbo) you better have a tranny in the budget otherwise don't mess with something you ain't going to mod right. I don't mean to be an ass but i'm giving you the facts straight on the table. Take it or leave it.

I vote, leave it alone. Because I don't want to hear you whine when your tranny blows up, or you tune the car wrong and the motor blows up.

Yea, I really don’t think the car is worth putting money into. I bought the car just to beat around in, nothing to be serious about. I still may put the headers on and do a pulley and tune and see what happens. I may try to take the SC off and port it. Just mods that is relatively cheap. It is a $2500 car. I have learned my lesson on dumping tons of money in cars. I spent 50k on my Shelby that I had and lost money on that and all of the cobras I have modded to hell. O well. I will play it by ear...

all that cash i would put in it on a turbo kit and it still would require lots of money to make it reliable and fast, as u stated. I will just stick to modding the cobra's..more reliable

If you put some money into a trans, assuming you dont mod like a fool, the engine will last. The engine is not the weak aspect here, its the trans.

I would get a built tranny first, then do the lil mods as you get extra money. That way your tranny will hold up and with just over 100k your motor should hold up well for a while.
I am also in the same boat with my mustang, couldn't afford a cobra and got a gt instead. 15k for the car ,15k in mods and I would be lucky to get 12-14k for it. GRRR

I've been racing dirt track and doing off road stuff all my life and that has all ways been the one common factor, and as far as my GTP goes its my wifes hand me down. she got a new car, and I got a new toy to play with.
