I figured I would do a writeup since I am in the process of getting stuff prepared for my next retrofit. I don't know for sure when it will be done, but going slowly at things. This is more for just the Morimoto Mini H1, no year specific. It's to take your retrofit build a few steps farther. But I will update this more as I proceed.
Cut Off Painting:
Needed: High temp paint of preferred color
Phillips screwdriver
Paint preparation items (i.e. sandpaper, cleaning agent)
The purpose of this is change the nasty gray color when looking through the lens, to a more colorful. On a sunny day, the color of the cutoff is shown through and looks nice.
Ideally, this is what it will look like on the inside after said and done. As you can tell, I already have mine painted.
To begin with, we will want to remove the lens and lens holder via four Phillips screws on the face side of the projector. (Note: There are tiny washers that space the lens out accordingly between the lens holder and the cutoff base/bowl. Do not lose these!!!)

With the lens holder off, the cutoff base along with the cutoff actuator should come off. This is the piece we are going to be dealing with, you may set the refracting bowl aside.
A side view for reference if you forget how it is assembled correctly.
On the backside, you will find two Phillips screws that hold on the actuator to the cutoff base. Remove these and the actuator should be free. (Note: In the picture, it is the upgraded Morimoto Mini H1 4.1 which include the "squirrel finder" cover. The older models did not include these.)
This is what you will be left with when the actuator has been removed.
The metal clip needs to be squeezed to be removed from the cutoff base.
The actuator flap then can be removed by gently pulling the cutoff open. This is all your pieces completely removed.
Now you are ready to paint the cutoff. I would recommend that you sand it first, but lightly so you don't distort the curve of it. Also properly clean the surface as well. I also recommend high temp paint as this is only cm away from the bulb. You will see them smoke and smell on the initial time that the bulb is behind them on. Reverse the order to fully assemble back the projector.
