MISSLEXX 05" Comp G minor makeover

Hey everyone, I have been creeping around the forum for quite some time but finally became a member! I purchased my 05 Grand Prix Comp G in January of this year and I really enjoy it. I have done a few minor personalizing cosmetic mods but nothing major. With the help of my handy hubby i plan to really dive into this car this summer and start making some serious horsepower!! Soo far I have night shaded the taillights, restored the rough headlights, painted the brake calipers(pink of course), and painted the engine cover. The windows will be tinted and the rims will be powder coated very soon. BTW i will be doing the powder coating myself. We have a small powder coating operation, nothing huge just a hobby. Here are a few pictures of it soo far.

My mods for the summer include lowering the car and some engine mods. For starters what do you guys think of this?

CAI: just going to get some couplers from samco and put a filter on the end of the MAF
Headers from SSAC
plugs/wires
180 deg tstat
3.4" pulley
Tune with HPTuners (not real familiar with it but will be getting real familiar with it on our turbo 5.3 project)

This is what i would like to do first but possibly planning on more depending on how pleased I am. I know its hard to say but what kind of hp numbers are you guys seeing with these mods? And YES i have used the search function, YES i have read the "safely modding your 3800 thread" thoroughly.

If I am hungry for more i guess i will be looking into an intercooler, rockers, and maybe even a real small shot of spray and building a trans.

FIRST!

That looks like a pretty good mod list. If you've used HPT for a turbo 5.3 it should be cake for your 3800.

Well my hubby has it but we havent even removed the VATS from his pcm yet to get it started. Once its running and the turbo plumbing is done he can start getting familiar with it. We used megasquirt on an old car and it was kinda over my head :s

wannna powercoat my rims

I would love to! If you can get them to us in South Dakota I would be more than willing. To forum members I would even be interested in doing things such as calipers, motor mounts, valve covers, etc for cost of powder, abrasive material, and a little for time but my introduction is not the place to be discussing this im sure as there are vendors who may be paying for an advertisement on this forum. I dont want to upset anyone, just offering to help those out who dont have the money to pay outrageous shop charges, thats how we got started doing it ourselves.

If you need help with HPT, ask around. I can refer you to a guy in Nebraska if you want to make the drive, he does excellent street tunes and just spent 4 hours on a friend of mine's Grand Prix.

I just saw in your sig that your husband's Monte is an 86 MCSS with a 5.3.
Did you keep the truck accessories on the 5.3? If so where did you get your hot side turbo parts?
I'm in the process of doing a 5.3/4L80E "Budget Build" in my 86 MCSS as well, and haven't found a hotside I like yet.

Budget is definately what this project is all about! Just picked up an 8.8 explorer rear with 3:73 gears, trac-loc, 31 spline axles, and disc brakes for next to nothing and will be narrowing one side of it to center the diff. The th400 was the cheapest option that will hold up well(although an overdrive would be preferred). He built it himself using a 750hp capable kit from jakes performance. The 5.3 is mostly stock other than a fresh valve job, ls6 cam/springs, and arp head bolts. The turbo is just a Borg Warner s400 1.1 75mm from forced inductions. It may be too big but many others are using them and they are CHEAP. The wiring harness was just a factory harness he modified to work. All truck accesorries are being used along with the intake and oil pan for now. using flipped cts-v ls6 manifolds leftover from a buddys car. Mounting the turbo on the passenger side up front.
