Misfire, now no spark at all?

my father in laws got a 2001 monte carlo with the l36, he said it had stopped running and then when started again it had a bad misfire, he cleaned the connections on the coil packs and the plate that the coils sit on. it now has no spark at all, he said there is power to the plug at the bottom of the coil plate/mount . . . any help appreciated

Thanks in advance,
Fisher

Is there spark at any of the coils? If not, then check the ground for the ICM, should be bolted to one of the studs that holds the coil bracket on. If that checks out, double check all the fuses in the car and the ones under the hood.

If you drive a W-body with the same engine you could swap ICM's and see if the Monte fires up. If so, then the ICM is toast.

Is the CEL on?
