• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

minor rough idle prob

just started the other day, before i could step in to the pedal and very good throttle response and smooth power excelleration.
the prob was the other day i started the car and could feel a little rough idle but not bad.
but where you could really feel it was stepping on the pedal, it seems like there is nothing there until you press on the pedal harder. kinda like its missing a cylinder but it hasnt trown a code.
did i just get a tank of bad gas?
plugs?
any help will be really appreceated!!
cool site, iintro'd last month but havent posted yet!!
thanks

So if I understand correctly it has a rough idle but smoothes out once you give it some gas? If so it sounds like the idle air control valve (IAC for short) is sticky or failing. The IAC is a little device mounted horizontally on the front side of the throttle body with two bolts and is used to regulate the flow of air into the motor when it is idling as the butterfly in the throttle body is completely closed. The pintle inside the device should be able to freely move back and forth as commanded by the PCM to regulate idle speed. As the vehicle ages they get sticky or fail completely and the car either idles rough or won't run at all. It's about a $40 part and takes about 10 minutes to change.
