so pulled the motor on 98 regal gs new timing chain rear seal pan gasket lots of fun but when i cleaned the oil pan i found what apears to be a needle bearing its small half a inch or so long small diameter any ideas?? i would like to know where this came from:th_nervous:

Possibilities are lifter roller or rocker trunion, off the top of my head. You can start by checking under the valve covers (rockers), and then under the lower intake manifold (lifters). This will let you replace those more common leaking gaskets while you're in there, anyway, along with any upgrading you want to do. You can hit you local Ace/Lowe's/Home Depot to get a set of re-useable rocker bolts (match length of OEM 5/16-18 single-use ones with quality, non-stainless Allen head cap screws like vendors sell for $20).

lower intake gaskets and elbows were done last fall didn't notice anything, dealer did front valve cover gasket on recall drove the car from Maricopa AZ to Edmonton Alberta [1800 miles] never used any oil car runs very good just had oil leaks i had changed the oil pan gasket a few years ago fel-pro said only to use rtv on the four corners not this time better not get any more leaks as its got all new gaskets and seals

Welp, you got a metal piece. You can either dig in, pull it out with a magnet and take a picture with a ruler... consider having to crack open your engine to investigate... or just roll on.
