Meaningful Post for Us Car Junkies

so i was browsing through one of my various car pages on facebook when this very long post from one called Stancenation came up. intrigued by the "keep reading" i decided to finish it, and by the end of the post i felt like i had just read something that was pretty deep and meaningful. anyways here is the post by StanceNation.

"The car game- It will change even the best of them. Spoken from a player perspective and as an observer.

We start off just wanting to have a nice car. It is after we achieve that goal that things get interesting.

Going to meets and car shows isn't the same as it used to be. You are rock star drawing the type of crowds that would make Lil Wayne blush. Promoters are moving you to spots where the
car can be seen. No more parking in the back where you have to walk 20 minutes to see the main attractions, you built what some people are there just to see.

Overnight, the treatment is like night and day. How can people be so shallow and change so quick you wonder. Car guys along with regular people start respecting you more based off of your whip. Your facebook n forum inboxes blow up everyday because you now all of a sudden have all of the answers. Everyone proudly claims they know you regardless if they do or not. "Yeah that's my boy."

The love is overwhelming. What a boost in confidence a drop, wheels and a body kit can do. From there an ego forms. With some its more present than others but all cars guys have it no matter how well they hide it. I don't care what you say, without it, you wouldn't be able to take your car to the next level. When humans get treated differently than we are used to (good or bad), we change as we are products of our environment.

The cars that inspired you are now being compared to yours. You could of never imagined it happening. It sort of feels like a movie script. People who you never met argue for hours online which is the nicest. The feeling leaves you on top of the world.

As time goes on, you keep modding your car to regain that feeling and to bring excitement back to your life. Its like our fix. Each time gets you a high but not as much as the last. Each time also burns a bigger hole in your pocket as you lose all spending consciousness. What used to seem like a lot now seems like a bargain. You can point out more things that you don't like about the car than when it was stock. Everything must be changed. Some of your friends in the game begin to hate hard at the rapid progress you have made and it hurts because you always showed them love.

Newbies are coming up just as quick as you did. Their cars get compared to yours now since your on top of your respective food chain. In your mind your's is nicer and more complete so you get on the defensive because the spotlight isn't on the whip as much as before. Sucks but you are old news brah. You are only as relevant as your last modification, feature or what ever. Hater tendencies form within you. Some of your new mods are now not done out of love for the scene but rather as a way to crush a hater whom there is a silent competition with. One that you both may have been thrown into by all the people in your ears comparing the two of you.

"I'm leaving on top" you say. So you sell the car as the excitement isn't there anymore. Time the detox and drive a stock car. The problem is going back to an average Joe life isn't going to cut it. Every single nice car on the road brings you flash backs. You were that dude. You used to leave people in neck braces and now you can't even get cops to look at you if you were doing 30 over the limit. There is no rehab for car guys. We either get back into the game or start a family. If you are lucky, its both.

Remember what got you into the scene in the first place and have fun building a "nice car."

It's true, you start with something and build it up how you want it... Some people's rides end up not appealing to anyone while others are praised like God's and eventually they are given a big spotlight, not just in your small car community, but in an entire country or even the world and nothing can feel better than people all over seeing your car. Whether they like it or not, the spotlight is addicting... It's like a drug and you want to stay on top.. Sadly though, you end up getting bored with it or realize this is as far as I can go and need to start something new. So you sell your masterpiece and get something else, whether it be a common dd or another work of art.

i just dont like that the car scene has become a competition and when "it's not good enough" to be one of the best then you're just another loser with a lisence.

I'm driving the car the cops wouldn't look at twice over 30mph, actually made it slower and I'm very happy.

Cause it doesn't f'n break every few days.

Modding cars and auto racing was way before WWII, lolz...
Just maybe not as popular nor affordable :)

Good read, lolz!

I was actually just thinking about the Fever thing.
How far do ya go,is it ever done, what is right and what is wrong, what is subjective and what is objective,
Some people get the 15 minutes of fame and a helluva lot more don't
regardless, we are all car lovers otherwise we wouldn't be here
I'm the guy that works with what I got ....?

Sounds like alot of people I "know"

that's not what i mean.

people don't respect other people's style/ingenuity/labor anymore.

believe it or not, around here (relatively) most of the guys i hang out with, all give my friends and i individual respect for our cars despite of what it is. we go off of how cool the owner of the car is, not usually the car itself..

that part of the reason why i love my car, because really, no matter where i go with it, i seem to get this relative general respect for the car and how it is now.
and i like that.. and thats kinda why i wouldn't ever sell it.

My friends give me hell for driving a grocery getter thats not LSx powered &/or RWD. But they still like the car and appreciate what I have done to it.

The 10-12yr olds in my neighborhood always tell me how nice my car is, next to a neighbors 370z mine is the nicest car in the housing edition.

I love my car, and at the end of the day, hate or congrats don't touch my own feelings towards my ride. It is my hobby, GF doesn't get it, and she never will, she has her hobbies and I have mine. You just have to love what you do and if others don't, that's their problem.

Like HeavyD, even tho most don't like the blue, its his ride and at the end of the day he is happy. That is the only thing that matters.

LMAO Right cause it was so mainstream before WWII. The automotive industry with regards to modding etc did NOT become popular until AFTER WWII. Someone needs to check their history books.

i love this.

what i dont like in the car scene is "your cars gay because its a ford, honda, etc." yes, there will always be haters and *****es, sadly. but when i dont like a car, i dont say its a bad car.

the one thing we need the most, is respect.

people were runnin speed trials in daytona sands since 1902 lol.

LMAO!!! Walking talking history book here!

general knowledge son...

who ddo you think were the crazy guys who thought to put a 500cube caddy motor in a tbucket, in the first place... or put a lift kit on a 57 belair and move the rear axel up like effn 2ft to get better traction.. not us... those crazy sunza btchez make our mods to our cars look like chopliver

Good read, I have the mod at "My pace" thing going. I gives no fvcks about who likes or dislikes my ride. I ENJOY my car, rather than how others enjoy it.

I never said it wasn't. You misread my 2nd post. I stated its popularity did not grow until after WWII. Not once have a stated there was no racing before. When the many service men returned home they still wanted to go fast and there was an increase in car modifying. Why do you think speed shops all the sudden starting popping up?

LMAO!!! Walking talking history book here!
Apparently you can't comprehend either. Well done. Where's the clapping smilie.

And it's general knowledge it didn't get popular with the general public until AFTER WWII. Ironic how you used the year 1957 in your post to argue mine. LMAO
