MAP Sensor Question

2002GP1

New member
I have a 2002 Grand Prix (not supercharged). I recently replaced my MAF sensor after pulling the code from my check engine light. While I was at it, I tried to also remove the MAP sensor. The sensor came apart in two pieces. The top half where the wires are connected and the bottom "plug." When I removed the top half it exposed a flat surface with a sticky residue on it. I then placed the top half of the sensor back where it came from, clipping it back in place. The car is running wonderfully after replacing the MAF sensor. Again, the code I pulled from the check engine light only indicated that the MAF was bad. I should have just left well enough alone and not messed with the MAP sensor but I couldn't help myself.
Has anyone else had the MAP sensor come apart like this? Any thoughts on whether the MAP sensor will continue to work or if I have compromised its ability to function correctly?

Soooo the little casing came apart or the top with a dickfer came off the bottom cap section? Because the cap is just a cap with the sensor on it. Your description makes it sound like the actual sensor came apart. To make you feel better, I'll say.. if it did.. it was likely going to fall apart anyhow.. (feel better?). Just get another if you think it's questionable. They are all over the place at the junkyard.
