Making the horns more audible to others

I've noticed that the horns are pretty much pointed into the engine compartment. This is great for passing inspection, but other cars usually cannot hear me when they are changing lanes without looking (or any of the multitudinous other ways people drive like idiots).

Has anyone re-aimed their horns for better horn performance?

Any other way to increase the effectiveness?

Are the horns working properly? Facing one direction won't make that much of a difference, unless they are against a solid surface that is muffling/muting the sound. You can add a dual trumpet air horn kit from Hella or others, usually around $30-50.

Just to follow up- I had some horns from my old Buick and installed them behind the front grilles. Pretty simple job, just used some existing bolts on the hood release assembly.

Makes a huge difference - horns pointed out the front makes it much quieter inside the car when I honk, and I can tell other drivers actually hear me now (although not as well as they hear the guy with the train horns in the video, Levelx...
