Magnasteer wire

I pulled the tranny out of my 2000 Olds Intrigue over the weekend. Yesterday, I went to pull the jack out from under the car and it hung up on the wires going to the magnasteer and jerked them out of the rack. Has anyone ever been inside the magnasteer rack? If so, is the magnet accessible in such a way that I can repair/solder the wires back? I'm pulling the rack after work this evening but can't find any dis-assembly procedures for it.

Thanks.

Never been in that area ....sorry. Maybe Scottydoggs (I mention the name because it's kinda magical how people pop into threads right after I do that).

A pic of the damage done might help determine your best route to a solution.

It doesn't really require a pic to see the damage. The wires were jerked out of the PS rack. The bottom of the rack has an empty grommet with no wires (red and black) going into it. I guess it's probably a moot point anyway since this rack has 178,000 miles on it. I should probably just replace it anyway, since I have the tranny and sub-frame out already.

thats a road i also have not traveled, no idea whats inside that area.

but like you said the sub frames out, its easy to change it at this point. and with those miles its only a matter of time.

Hey.. guys, don't be telling my 206K mile rack these things. I could have swapped it at 186K when the trans swap was happening (still peeved I pulled out that perfectly good 186K mile trans, yeah Monty..really).

Just to give you that squeamish feeling back...my motor kicked it at 204,915

No comment on taking out a perfectly good trans at 186? It was good... had a coil acting so oddly, no one could figure it out until I shotgunned stuff after the swap.

I do have the GM Shop manuals for my 1998 Buick LeSabre with MagnaSteer. I'll see if there's anything in there, though my feeling is it's considered a "non-user serviceable part."
