MAF Upgrade?

Been a very long time since I have been on here. I have begun bringing my Prix back to life. My MAF sensor needs to be replaced. I was going to upgrade the TB but I am wondering about the MAF sensor. TBs I see on websites all say without MAF sensor. I went online and MAF sensors range from 75 to 200 but what's the difference? Does anyone have a suggestion or website that sells an actual upgraded better than stock?
Thanks In Advance!

You could go the northstar tb and lq4 maf combo but it's not a stock replacement you'll need a adapter and be tuned for it.

if using the stock tb use the stock maf for your year, chances are you not out flowing it yet.

if you go N* you'll need a tune for the new maf.

when you out flow the limits of the maf sensor. to do so you need a turbo, or cam ic heads, aka lots of mods done to out flow the stock maf.

In even simpler terms, you're going past the highest values on the MAF table in your PCM, which is maxed out at 11,500 hz in the sensor output and 511g/sec in the table. An AFC can be used to skew down the Hz value from the sensor (or a larger diameter MAF tube). If you're getting near or above 511 g/sec, you'll need to skew your injector flow rate down to avoid hitting that value.

I've dealt with both of these issues, either with 20+psi turbo settings, M90 pulleys in the 2.55-2.70" range, and my MP112 setup. I've been doing both the AFC and Injector skew for a while, to avoid approaching either again.

Having a idle issue with monte ever since I installed plogs and deleted my egr valve and block the exhaust and intake with maf plugged car cranks and revs up and down almost cutting off then it levels out after warming up get about 22 mpg Ltft 16.4 stft 20.3 without the maf sensor stft 0 ltft like 8 car runs smoothly if not better on acceleration but mpg is 18-19 changed maf sensor and cleaned out of 2 1 worked I noticed that my maf sensor was different if I believe right for the hen v swap I got it off of a regal used the blower adapter plate and the TB but I might of swapped tb with my stock one or one I had laying around but I seem to keep running across 2 different maf sensors found them.on both n/a and s/c engines 3.8 series 2

This is the sensor i have on my car only found on regals and 97-98 grand prix

When pulling out the sensor out of most l67 found this sensor in the l36 to

Do how to load pics but I have the small round maf sensor instead of the longer box shaped one is there a difference in the l36 and l67 maf sensor ik the TB are different sizes

the l67 and l36 maf are the same. just make sure the part# is the same. like you said 98-97 are the same maf, 99 up they start to change part #.

was the egr tune dout? or just deleted? what plugs brand/type were installed?

not sure if im following right, auto correct got ya. gen 5 with the stock tb and maf, or you using the N* maf and tb on teh gen 5?you need a that n* maf tuned to your car. where it will run it wont run right.

your trims are lean, have you checked for vac leaks?

Sounds like you have a round 1997-98 style MAF sensor, which needs to be in a matching Throttle Body that seats the MAF inside an aluminum strip that runs up the center of the TB inlet. It's not meant to run in a 1999+ TB without that housing, which is why those have the boxed plastic around the filaments to route the air properly across for measurement.

See pics here: L36 High Velocity Throttle Body for 3800 Engine – ZZPerformance
Again, the only difference for either Supercharged version is the larger diameter throttle blade, and no "Mickey Mouse ears" on the back side of the blade opening.

If I'm reading this wrong, let me know. It was hard to read the story the way it was written.
