LSX oil pump gears in an L67 cover?

I'm not familiar with the LSX motors, but looking at pics of the oil pump it looks like there are some similarities.

I'm thinking of grabbing an LSX pump, and looking at the possibility of stuffing them in our cover. I'm hoping the crank gear drive is the same. If so, then the cover could possibly be machined to accept the guts of the LSX. Be nice to get a higher flowing oil pump in there.

Any thoughts?
 


Sounds cool, and I know we can debate about it because of differing opinions, but realistically what would be the cost to effectiveness ratio of this? I personally would think a higher flowing oil pump would be worth it and would like to discuss the possible benefits of this further. any side by side pics of ours vs lsx ones?
 
i want some more oil pressure too. this sounds like something that i might be interested in doing.
 
is it a higher pressure or just more volume? If more volume is it going to cause starvation? That is an issue with many performance pumps on SBC engines
 
I'm putting a deeper sump pan on my car, so I don't care about starvation personally. The stock pan should really have a baffle in it though.
 


The LS7 oil pan in no bigger than an LS1's, the sump system is based throughout the engine bay. the main canister is in the passenger front of the engine bay....but could be placed wherever.

in mythbuster terminalogy......It's Plausible. (would be cool to see!!!)

but if you are planning on using LS1 components, I'd go for aftermarket LS1...instead of just using stock............just my .02cents

also, wouldnt it be simpler just to have a seperate oilling system off the main feed......and add it to various sections of the block that are starved?

ron i believe the best solution is an external wet sump pan, with a ported cover, deleted filter bypass/ported oil filter adaptor, step drilled rear bank main galley and drilled #2&3 mains.

we just picked up a couple of these at the drag expo :D

that passage in this block was just .112 past the cam bearing...another block i have measured at .120 so at the least ron stick a wire gauge down there...

i'm sorry i missed you at the drag expo...i was having an interesting coversation with Jason Coan about 4t65/4t80e FWD converters and gearing ya shoulda been there :p

Had the boys with me, and one of them started getting sick as soon as we got there. So needless to say, we didn't stay too long. I spent all Saturday cleaning my carpets, he ALMOST yacked on the dining room floor later that day, quick thinking got him to the sink just in time!

no one guessed right...ya'll were guessing too big...thats the scary part lol

BTW a side benifit to the external pan sump is that your now able to use a full pan windage screen/tray/crankscraper since the restrictive OE pickup/block passages are not used...

Yeah, I missed a lot of stuff, but I got some new ideas there.

I was up till 12:30 last night, had to get up at 5am to get showered and packed for my San Antonio flight this morning. I overslept to 6am...taxi arrived at 6:15, made it out the door at 6:16!

Yeah, poor Max has a 103F fever today. It's a drag being out of town when the kids are sick, but at least it's a little warmer here than Chicago right now.
 
I would think a high flow oil pump for a 305 would bolt into the 3.8, I even heard the pistons are super close if not the size.... 3.8 / 6 = .6 L per cylinder, 5.0/ 6 = .6 L per cylinder(i know this is different than piston size, but points to a very similar stroke as well), these motors are very close cousins if not brothers....

oh and did anyone see my dash at the expo, my buddy used it to display some finishes like wood grain and aluminum (all hydro applied)
 


I was there with Mike K. (WBS). LOL, he didn't even notice it was GP dash until I pointed it out. I took some literature, but they quoted us $300 for the GP dash...a little high for mass production. I wanted to talk to him about a run of group buys (maybe some sort of prepay deal), but had the kids with me, and my oldest was really impatient.

stroke/deck height is different as well as the piston comp height, bore centerlines are different and the bore is smaller
the only thing they share in common is the 4.3L V6 is a 90* split journal V6

sorry i aint one for appearance stuff lol

did mikeK get to any of the seminars? evidently coan has developed several different stator designs for the 65e converters...
