Whats the best oil weight and brand that these LS4s like? ive heard people running 0w30 in colder climates which i am in. any recommendations?

It doesn't really matter what brand you pick.

Stick with what the cap says, 5W30 is just fine for cold climates and has been for a long long time.

How long you want the oil to last can determine if you run conventional or a full synthetic.

I use whatever the shop has that changes my oil. i had some oil consumption issues until I turned off the DOD/AFM

I've had good luck with Mobil 1 5W 30 since new, no oil consumption in 5k changes. I have 124k on it now, switched to high mileage at 90k.

i ran Valvoline high mileage full synthetic in my Jeep i had so i think im gonna stick with that in the LS4. Just didnt know if these engines liked a specific oil. Thanks all. My car has 264k miles but only around 75k since the motor was pulled and refreshed with new rods and pistons added.

That's what I use. I tried regular Valvoline Synthetic and the lifters didn't like it. High mileage oil has 30% more film thickness and better protects from wear. The lifters also quieted down after the switch.

I have been using Mobil 1 for years 5000-7500 mile change intervals depending on which car and how i drive it, and a good filter (pure one or mobil 1)with no issues.
