• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Low Oil Pressure?!?!

From the sounds of it I would think it would be something with the pickup. Either something blocked, or a bad seal on the pickup tube. If your getting 50PSI then I would think the pump is working, but at lower RPM if there is a blockage on the pickup it would be hard to pull the oil up, but at higher RPM it does pick up more. Not sure if that is where the problem is, but it makes sense to me.

That's kind of the conclusion I've come to... Anyone wanna help me in dropping the pan to check it out?? I'm afraid I don't have all of the necessary equipment to perform the task in my garage.

Well I dont have an engine support, but I think there are some plans around so you can build one out of 2X4's.

I dont know what your plans are, and I cannot make any guarantees, but you are close enough that I may be able to drive out there and help and bring some of my tools. I dont have any jack stands though as they are currently in use supporting my 3400lb paper weight.

I cant speak for Chris either, but perhaps if both of us could make it out there we could knock everything out fairly quickly but I'll leave that up to him because I too am uncertain as to when I could make it out there.

Awesome! I really appreciate the offers of help. I'll have to see what I can do as far as arranging a way of doing it at my house and rounding up the supplies for a home-made engine support first. I'll see if I can get either next weekend or the following one off work so this can be done without interruption.

Scotty, Don't worry about the jack stands. I have that covered.

You'll need the gaskets obviously. I have torque wrenches too. But again its going to be all about the timing and such. The last month or so Ive been rather busy on my weekends but if we work it our right I think I could make my way out there to help out.

I am in the same boat here. I am picking up my son in Canada the 1st of Aug and have him for a month, then have to take him back to Canada the 1st of Sept, then Branson the next weekend. I basically have the next 2 weekends then I am booked till mid Sept. Oh and this weekend I am going to Branson on Saturday and Tulsa on Sunday (Who cares about stinking gas prices....yea right). but I may be able to help out next weekend.

And here I thought we were friends. You didnt even tell me you were gonna be in the area :)

Well, I don't think I was able to get all of next weekend off. I will have all of the following weekend free, though.

I'll have to check on that weekend. I thought I had something scheduled the first or second week of August. Got a customer coming up that wants to do some modifications.

I'll have to see and let you know.

Well... Today it finally happened... I'm pretty sure one of my lifters collapsed. Something's been ticking in the rear bank area for years, and I was pretty sure it was a lifter. Well today, I'm assuming due to the low oil pressure, it collapsed fully. I now have an extremely loud tapping and a loss of power like I'm only on 5 cylinders. The car will remain parked until I can get the new gaskets in that I was planning on redoing anyways. Looks like I'll be needing new lifters as well. As soon as we get the new trans in my roommate's 260Z and it out of the garage, teardown of the top end will begin. Scotty, you think you'll be able to make it out next weekend? I won't have to work and am going to try and get an engine hoist to make things easier.

Next weekend is not looking good. I was not sure if I had anything going on that weekend or not and was thinking I did not until the wife reminded me of her family reunion on the 3rd. We may need to get on the phone and hash all this out depending on how big of a hurry you are in. Im sorry about the scheduling and all, but I had completely forgot about the reunion.

Just in case, is there anyone else in Dan's area that may be able to lend a hand? Maybe we could all get together and help him and get him back on the road.

I'll try and work something out Dan, I want to get out there and help you and will do everything I can to do so, we just have to conquer the schedules.

Well, since my roommate finally got his project car running and out of the garage, I pulled mine in last night and started the teardown. I have everything apart and just finished pulling the lifters out. I see no visible signs of collapse or damage to any of the lifters. There were, however, multiple failures in the gaskets. One in the SC gasket from one of the ports to the exit opening. And the usual places on the factory LIM gaskets. (I'll try to get some pictures taken before I reinstall everything.

I'm not 100% sure what to do as of this point. I don't know whether to just put the new lifters in and reassemble everything, or to remove the heads and check the valves...

If it were me, I would pull the heads off and see how everything looks. Also, I would pull the oil pan and check all the rods and mains. You haven't even touched the oiling system yet.
