Low coolant light

If you can't figure out where the coolant is going, then take it to a qualified shop that can do a cooling system pressure test for you. That should show any EXTERNAL leaks. If the system won't hold pressure and they don't find external leaks, then time for LIM gaskets and elbows. And a gallon of coolant over 6 months isn't beyond imagination for something else to be leaking. Have you looked at the waterpump, checked all hoses, looked at the rad. for cracks? Just throwing ideas out there.

its not going into the engine because that would have raised the engine oil level and i would notice it ive put atleast a whole jug of dex cool in this thin in the past 6 months

hey just joined the forum and ive done quite a few major things to my 99 GT and this was my first major problem. i had the elbows dry rot out and replaced them myself but it seems you are discribeing a similar problem i later encounterd. coolant dissapearing. never a good thing especally if there is no puddle. (there are no signs of an external leak correct?) if yes disregard this.

i was burning coolant in my engine but didnt know it at the time. but i had already replaced the engne heads, head gaskets, upper and lower intake gaskets, the elbows, and all my hoses. i did a pressure test and sure enough when i went to pump air in, there was a hissing in the engine somewhere where air (and coolent) were going. i took everything apart to see if i didnt set the gaskets right ...3 times >:( i was on the bring of letting my car roll off a cliff (at this point my car stopped starting because of the coolent in the cylinders) NOT SUPPOSET TO BE THERE but how did it get in there?

it was pure luck that i saw the problem during reassembleing everything.
on the upper intake manifold (the big plastic one) there is a line for coolent to run through close to the throttle body. in this small hole (just big enough for a finger) there was another hole that was not supposed to be there. a hole the size of the tip of a pen was spewing coolent into my air intake, in turn being injested into my engine. the only way i saw it was because it had worn through to the red gasket between the upper intake and the throttle body.

i saw no coolent in the oil the entire time. and before it wouldent start i was having to refill the coolent more and more frequently.

had to go buy a new upper intake manifold ($130 ish) put it on, fired up ( after i cleared the coolent out of cylinders) ran a little rough and had white smoke for a few min, and it smoothed right up and ran normal. (a week later wouldent start again, but that was the ignition modual. slapped a new one on and again fired right up) still driving my car and this was 2 years ago. runs great and its goin on 196,000 miles. oh also to mention i have no mechanic training but if i didnt call something the right name thats why. but a hanes repair manual was my best buddy for a few weeks. i suggest getting one. $20 at advance auto.

(p.s. im terrible at spelling and grammar so if u see something, just let it slide lol it wont do you any good to correct it)

I have a manual and I don't know if ithere is or isnt an external leak but its not the elbows or anywhere in direct line of sight under the hood and its not leaking enough to where I can see a puddle or anything when its parked so unless its only leaking when its going down the road where I cant see it so idk I guess all have to fine someone to do a pressure test
