Loud clunk noise shifting from neutral to reverse?

I know I said something about this in my first intro forum few days ago but I figured I make a forum about this with a thread title that might catch a few other eyes and maybe lead me on the right track. I have a 2005 Grand Prix GT 113k miles that I bought also a week ago that sat the whole Winter so it had a few issues and most have been fixed. The thing that concerns me the most is I noticed is when I shift from neutral to reverse I will hear a clunk noise that I can feel it from the floor and also jerks my car a little bit. I want to know if anyone has had the same issue that I am having and what did they do to fix the problem. I was thinking maybe I need a new trans mount or U Joints? Im not familiar with whats under the GP so I dont know what I would be looking for if I were to look under my car. The car shifts and runs smoothly while driving so its just that little issue that concerns me the most!

I will try to get a video of the noise and post it on youtube just so everyone could get a better idea of whats going on.

Thanks!

No I don't park on a slope and I think its every time I come home from work or store which is about 10-15 minutes away from my house. I do let my car warm up a few minutes before driving as well. Transmission fluid is normal and doesn't smell burnt. When I start my car and mess with it, its not as bad but when i drive it and then park then mess with it, I can notice a difference.

I would check your axles, and transmission mounts. I don't think it would be the reverse band, but I guess it is a possibility as well.

If you can, jack the front end up with the wheels off and have some one go from park or drive to reverse and see if you can see something hitting.

I will try to do that tomorrow and let ya know how that goes! Thanks for your feed back, much appreciated =D

My makes the same clunking sound I bet from coming out a parking going into drive or coming from to reverse to drive....

Its most likely the lower motor mount on the passenger side if you can here it coming from that side and most likely the tranny mount if the sound is coming from the driver side. Check all your mounts, doing a load test is a good way to see if your mounts have any play and you will need someone to watch the mounts while you torque break it. Also, every time you change gears your motor will move a bit and depending on if the motor/tranny mounts are bad or not you'll have either a lil movement or a big annoying snapping/jerk sound

Pretty sure I have the big annoying snap jerk sound you're talking bout... While I'm driving if I take my foot off the gas pedal as in like you're coming to a red light and you're coasting and then get back on the gas you can hear like a snap/jerk metal sound You can feel it in the car and the gas pedal...

If you have cable operated throttle then I would point to mounts too if you can feel it in the pedal. You think while the engine jerks from one side to another bad enough it could wiggle the throttle cable and you'll feel it under your foot.

Definitely your mounts especially if you've never changed them. Also do a courtesy check on your control arm bushings, sway bar links, tie rods, rack n pinion bolts(may be loose), etc. Theses areas could cause noises if loose or if bushing are worn.

Yeah I dont think they have ever been changed. I will also check all the other stuff you mentioned Dee23 because when I drive and it little bumps I feel and hear like a rattle noise like something is loose.
