Found this theselinks today. Some very useful stuff. Anything from valvetrain geometry to intake flow rates to explanations of KR. all credit goes to ZZP unless otherwise noted in the article, and not me.

I believe these to be mostly accurate and are parallel to what I have been hearing members tell other members.

Um yeah I don't believe anything they say, like its safe to run a 3.5 on a stock car without mods........ their catback makes more hp than anyone else's :th_liar:
 
If you'd read they said the stock flows to 300whp. I know they are old articles but that doesnt mean they are all bogus. This is for the guys who havent been here forever and would still learn from reading the safely modding your 3800 thread.
 


Unforutunately there's possibly more bad info in there than good.

"run a 3.4 pulley and our pcm, your car will love it".
 
"If you plan on doing other modifications as well then the 3.4" pulley is a better choice. It requires a smaller belt or an oversized tensioner pulley. The 3.4 will give ~25 additional HP. Supporting mods that are required include colder Tstat, stage 1 throttle body, colder spark plugs, cold air intake, TB spacer, we recommend at minimum installing the Ubend delete, but the best exhaust mod is our downpipe."

Yes the TB spacer is bogus, (unless its needed for their tb?)

Im not asking for this to be a sticky, but zzp usually tests the things they claim. If it would be more helpful I could separate out the ones that arent exactly relevant anymore.
 
ZZ Performance

Jason Bagnell recently purchased a Competition VS Cam and placed in his 2000 Pontiac GTP.

From Jason's email on 02/26/2004:



"Hey Zooomer... I just got my car back from the shop and the VS cam is running beautifully!!!

RWHP (Horsepower) Before / RWHP After: 231.2 / 265.5

RWTQ (Torque) Before / After: 258.7 / 276.4

Net Gains from VS cam & 90 lb spring upgrade: 34.3 HP / 17/7 Torque

Equivalent Engine HP rating from Dyno computer after adjusting for drivetrain loss: 326HP!!!

KR=0 .... 0.1 at the most infrequently!!!

Awesome...

KR was 5-6 at times before the cam install!"

15* difference for the cost of ceramic coating?

Which is $300-600 depending on what you're having done.

3% power loss from higher IAT.

(high estimate based CAI_Primer_Thermal as well as assuming that the external temp of the intake tubing is the same as the internal... which it probably isnt.)

280 CHP.

3% is 8.4 HP.

*.80 for 6.72 whp.



Was looking at ported blowers on 540 WHP CTS-V... He gained 20 WHP.

3.7% increase.

so 3.7 on 280 is 10.36 CHP.

8.3 WHP for the cost of a ported blower. (free to 500 for ZZP)



Interesting when you put into perspective the cost of these mods for the gains you achieve.
 


I think you care too much.

Get headers.

Gain 20 FWHP.

Cheaper than a ported blower and a bunch of other crap.

I go fastest.

Are you saying thats good or bad? I would take 8WHP anyday, but maybe not for $500+. Some people like to do whatever they can to go faster.

Thats on a VERY expensive port job...


Looking at other options like intercooling.

NOT WORTH MONEY.

1500 by the time you're done.

for 40 whp?


Cam? Depends on what size.

If you're doing 34 WHP gains for the cost of the cam, gaskets, springs, retainers....

You're looking at:

330 cam
100 springs/retainers
200 gaskets/fluids.

630+ for 34 whp versus that 8 WHP you were so excited about for that 550 dollar blower port from ZZP.

Much better returns.
