lost torque with cai

I have installed a 4" 45* bend off of the tb then to Maf then to 4" spectre filter housed in a heat shield. I lost so much low end tq that the wheels with only churp a few seconds rather then the whole national anthem. my question is does it have to do with the maf location or the 4" bend. or is the computer adding top end HP do to the increased air flow. is a loss of tq normal on a cai?

if anything my car feels a bit ( i do mean a bit, nothing to write home about) faster off the line with the hai, i can roast the tires at will from a dead stop. and i got 225,000 miles.

seen what you have for a set up before with no problems.

Try putting the maf closer to the tb and see if it helps (mabe infront of the 45* bend). I dont think that will but its worth trying.

Where is your PCV? If you didn't hook that back up you have a massive vacuum leak. If you just plugged it you could be causing other issues.

torque lost did happen immediately after install. don't know about boost yet as my obd2 dongle won't be here till Monday. the torque app will give me more insight. I have heard a few people say to put the maf with a pipe after to smooth airflow but did not think it would make a difference since the maf has that diffuser screen to straighten the air out. I think I will try to put the maf after the tb maybe later today or tommorow as I have to grab a 3" coupler and new pieces to fit that 9" filter in there. thinking about a fwi also but my filter stays cold already so not sure if it would make a dfference.

I see why the confusion. I was speaking in the order of tb, maf ,tube, filter. hence the maf after the tb. so has no one expierence a loss in low end from a cai? I know that alot of the forum members have pre 04+ gp with the maf mounted on the tb so there isn't a hole Lot of information on intake behavior of the 04 gp. I will post information on maf readings and such Monday or Tuesday with different setups to see if there are air disturbances with different locations of the maf.

Check your maf and see if the plug is still facing at the same angle as stock and facing the right direction. I installed mine at a weird angle and had issues but I have an lt1 maf so it might not matter for you but it did for me. Just a suggestion

as said above i gained more throttle response but barely noticeable...definately shouldn't be worse. my not s/c grand prix will spin tires all day long if i WOT
