Loss of power / stall / strange noise?

So recently I have had issues when accelerating. It doesn't happen every time, but it's really starting to piss me off, and I'm not sure where to start. You can find the video I've uploaded to youtube here... Loss of power / stall? - YouTube

The engine RPM's don't drop, and the speed stays pretty constant. If I let off the gas, the car will shift and is fine...until it does it again. If I'm merging, or something similar, when this happens, my back will go from touching the seat, to off the seat. It's like the car just loses power, but the engine is trying to go...No idea....Please help!

Yes, I have the Gen5 sitting on an L67. The transmission has 190k on it, and engine above 200k

Only two codes that show up in Torque Pro are
P0053 - Just purchased an upstream O2 from RockAuto, waiting for that to arrive.
P0455 - Not sure about this one, talking about a gas leak or something.

I don't think its an issue with the blower. It feels more like transmission or something. But I'm not quite sure. Because if the blower was to cut out, the engine would still produce power, correct?

Just looked at the video again, it's does a terrible job of showing the issue.

1. If I push pedal half throttle, boost kicks in, RPM's go up, then all of a suddent RPM's freeze around 3500, and car makes a low hum or something like that. When I let off the gas, it goes away.

i was asking about the blower not as the problem but a symptom i had, where the blower would try to kick in but wouldn't stay fully engaged on the highway and the transmission shifted funny between 1st & 2nd then shift hard to 3rd.
i'm guessing its probably your transmission, is it the original stock tranny?

oh I gotcha, my bad. Yea it's the stock tranny. I haven't dropped the pan in about a year to change the fluid and filter. I can take a look this weekend to see if anything is out of the ordinary.

i hope the tranny isn't the problem, you have 190,000 on yours i had 168,000 when i started having problems, i have no codes on the engine which is odd as its an 03

so let's talk about your codes...

Since you didn't bother to list the names.. I'll do it
P0455 is the current bane of my existance aka large evap leak. Check gas cap, replace the canister behind driver rear wheel well and see if that fixes it.. While you are there look for a rusted hole in the filler tube.
P0053 B1S1 aka the sensor before the cat is having a heating issue. So the new sensor in theory will help that unless the fuse blew or you have wires that rubbed.

As far as your trans... you don't say you feel slipping, only that you hear noise. Do you feel slipping? As you said the vid isn't the best to try and diag from. And honestly if people say chuga chuga, I can usually figure it out. But I cant quite think of what's going on here.

Thanks Bill, I can't really describe the sound very well. I went to go try another video to better catch what it's doing, and the issue isn't happening now...

I always seem to get the strangest issues with this car...

The transmission isn't slipping, it's not shifting hard, none of the "regular" issues.

Maybe it's not even a transmission issue, and it's something else. The best way I can describe it is it's going from a regular engine noise, to a deeper sound, kind of like a subwoofer on low volume. As soon as I let off the gas, it will shift, then the sound is back to normal. I hope someone knows what the hell I'm talking about, I promise I'm not that crazy.

check out your motor and trans mount. mine made a noise kinda like that and my motor mount was pretty much colapsed. it would only make that humming vibrating noises at certain rpms. as far as your power I would write Bills hunch on the evap leak

Also check your catalytic converter. Ours went bad and caused problems when you'd get on the accelerator. The internals broke down and plugged it. Ours is a 2001GT, and the cat went sometime around 8 or 9 years old.

It's "bogging"... I'd guess fueling? Have you changed fuel filter lately? What about MAF or MAP issues? All belts are good? Injectors clean? Sometimes it's a silly simple thing easily overlooked, like plugs or plug cable off/loose... A good once over might find it ;)

This is what I came here to say. I think fuel filter, fuel pump could be culrpits. A good tune up would be a good start unless you did so very recently. If you have or can rent a fuel pressure tester that would be good too.

I have never replaced the fuel filter in this car. I will need to do some reading on how to do that on this car. I can start there, should be fairly easy.
