Losing day/date function on display when changing to aftermarket stereo

FX4 Level II

Hey guys, I did a search and got a bunch of info. on losing the driver info. when changing radios and having stuff reprogrammed when changing to another stock radio. Well, I want to switch to an aftermarket, I went to order one on crutchfield.com, and it recommends some $50 extra part that I can't see my need for..........except there is a note that I will lose the day/date function of my info. station. IF I buy this extra part, will I keep the day/date function on the inof. center?
FYI.......I have a GT1, it is the regular stock radio, no monsoon, no HUD. Any help is appreciated!

Sounds like your talking about the wiring harness? Yes you will need this part for the new aftermarket radio.

Unfortunately you will loose calendar function. There might be a way to keep it with the wiring, don't know though.

hope this helps

Yeah, I know I need the harness, but there is another part they recommend that says you need? Not sure if I really "need" it, but I am thinking this may be to keep the calendar function.

This all I see, the top one has a lot more features, like the steering wheel controls and all the goodies.
The bottom one is the 50 dollar one and just comes standard, keeping door chime and on-star.
With the bottom one you will loose your calendar function though. Idk if the top one will retain this, probably not.

So if this is what you've mentioned then you will only need one, I would go with the 50 dollar one, unless you
do have all or most of the features mentioned in the top one. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, I talked to crutchfield tech, and with either one I would lose the caendar function, I ordered the $49.99 adapter as I do not have onstar, bluetooth, or steering wheel controls. Of course its on backorder, oh well, get my new stereo this week at least!

this is a little late, idk if its too late to cancel your order but if you dont have onstar or anything else you can use this wire harness thats on amazon for a penny plus shipping Amazon.com: Metra 70-2003 Radio Wiring Harness For GM 98-Up Harness: Car Electronics this is the harness that i recently bought, have not hooked it up yet but from what the guys on here have told me is that it will work just fine, only thing you have to do is run a wire from the back of the headunit's power source to the passanger fuse box for a power source because the stock harness on 04+ grand prix's dont have a power source, for more info look at the thread i posted here. it has a lot of good info http://www.grandprixforums.net/wiring-harness-question-58530.html

Putting the stock stero back fixes it. One guy around here wanted date on the DIC so bad he wired the stock stero into the trunk so it would remain. Just get a hu with the date on it problem solved.

ahh, gotcha. yes i had heard about wiring it in the trunk (personally dont think its anywhere worth it) but the way you said that was a little confusing, thanks for clearing it up

Quick question. Just had a pioneer hu installed today. Noticed the missing date. No big deal. But do the other warnings in the info centre work like low fuel, signal, tire pressure etc minus the ding??

Thanks. I knew I was going to lose the ding. It was a $120 savings. In Canada here the harness is about $150 to retain the ding or $30 ish for the other metra harness.
