Loose Connector

I have a loose connector in my engine bay around the transmission.
You'll have to forgive my terminology ignorance here, but the shift selector box on the top of the transmission has a wire going into it. About eight inches back from that connector another wire branches off to a connector that just dangles below the ABS box.

I couldn't get a good picture of it, but if you follow that wire it's just off the bottom right corner:

I've looked everywhere and I can't find anything to plug it in to. It's covered in gunk and looks like it may have never been connected. I looked in my SE for a reference and there was no wire branching off, and I can't find any wiring diagrams that show it.

Any one know what this is for?

Look down from the beige boot of the ps connection. See the wire that loops to the left of the pic. On this rack when it was bought remaned..it has your connector zip tied to the lines. Usually it's just laying there by the bottom of the column (beige boot area)

I'm not seeing any boot, or anything beige for that matter, I must be blind. I did find a huge ball of tin foil that wasn't there before :th_question1:

What does this do? If it's PS related shouldn't I have noticed a problem?

Nah.might be for the magnasteer. Sooo instead of looking for beige. See where the steering column would come out and go into the rack? Now look about 3 inches lower and that's where the connector should be. Some racks didn't have it. If your rack was replaced with the wrong one..it may not have it.

The blob of tinfoil was your firewall/tunnel heat shielding.

Inslulation on firewall. See near the tunnel for the exhaust how it's got foil. Likely that's yoru blob of it.

Okay, I see what you're talking about now (I was blind), but theres no connector or wire, and the connector I'm talking about wouldnt reach that far. It's just a short wire about three inches at most that sticks out directly betweet the ABS and the driver side axle.

As for the foil; the firewall's intact. The ball of foil sat between the crossover pipe and the transmission, and I know for a fact it wasn't there a couple days ago. I pulled it out and unwrapped it and it had crumbs in it. There was also an oddly shaped razor blade under it- kind of curved with a flat edge.

WTF is with my car? :th_wtf:
