Hey we are looking at buying an 05 grand prix. Any potential issues or concerns I should look for? The car has 86,000 miles on it and appears to be well cared for.

Buying

Looking at buying a 05' with 86,000 miles. Any issues I should be aware of? Seems to be well cared for and no noticable leaks. Check engine light is on and I am having them check on that before we buy.

Re: Buying

Prob sensors that wont mean much but if you are paying have them fix it LOL:th_king-evil:

It probably needs struts as my 05 needed struts at 70k miles. Also listen for humming bearings (rears in particular). If it comes from a high road salt region, look for bands of rust on the disk brake rotors. Clicking in the steering (bad shaft coupler). Leaking transmission cooling lines (with the hood up, just look down behind the radiator on the drivers side). Yeah, I had all these problems but still its a pretty well balanced car and gets 28 mpg on the highway.

Is it N/A or S/C?
If its S/C listen at idle for something that sounds like rocks shaking in a can. Just the s/c coupler but yanno....

Re: Buying

These cars really don't have alot of common issues.

-Headlight bounce (04s only)
-Front wheel bearings go at random (cheap to fix)
-HUD spring fails (easy fix)

Other than the 4t65e tranny not being the best tranny but certainly not the worst tranny GM ever came out with, 04+ tends to be a pretty solid car.

Thanks for the info. Had it scanned and came back secondary air flow. Dealer said either a pump or a solenoid. Not sure what pump, but they are going to fix it $350-400.
